    Default Definition of a googan

So what, if any, is the proper definition of a googan? It's certainly not something that Merriam Webster might explain. So what's your perception of the term?

It would appear that all 3 definitions fit people on this board

I fish with a GOOGAN that ties shoelace knots in his "fishing string".

An over-used NE term for what we call a jackass, A-hole, D-bag j/o etc... on the water here in Jersey

I will be more specific. The guy that yells on the radio for running too close to a school of bunker he is working in the spring. But he is the same guy to do it when he is done fishing for the day.

The first I heard of it was in the movie Petes Dragon. I assumed it was a New England term for piney, hillbilly, etc.

Honestly, I keep the radio off when fishing inshore recreationally because there too many that do not know how to use it or are just abusive with it. In tournaments we keep it on for updates and offshore it is on to be of assistance to nearby vessels.

By the way, someone just sent me a fishing quiz that has that pic in your signature as one of the questions. Have you seen it?

A googan is someone that uses "quotes", bold type, italics, and underscores to highlight a single, obvious punch line .

My friend is a lurker and I want him to know I am threatening to out him. That being said, your point is well taken.
