Interesting comparison. Ronz clearly has better action in a stationary position. It would be cool to see others too.... Hogy, FinS, Mister Twister, Striper Swiper, BKD, etc. gonna be a rainy weekend Fishhead.... keep us entertained!
John Skinner has a lot of these videos. Many have striper reactions also. It's cool to see what is actually happening when your rod tip starts bending.
I was actually testing out the action of a few different soft plastics in my swimming pool a few weeks ago because I was curious how certain baits swim And why I catch on some and not others. I caught a few fish on the pink 6in sluggo on a 1/2oz doa jog head. When I tested it out. I learned that it actually swims terrible and doesn't have any action at all. The bkd rigged on a jig head swims and ripples beautifully. I found that the black sluggo rigged weedless on a weighted swim bait hook looked probably the most realistic of all. It does a perfect underwater walk the dog back and forth and even seemed to stand out more than any other color. Now water clarity would play a roll of course. But I was very impressed with the weedless rigged black sluggo. And if anything I certainly learned what I'm not going to throw.
That's what we see. Wonder how the striper chooses to strike or turn away. They can be picky about size, color and who knows what. We tried switching up during a frenzy and it didn't matter - they hit the ratty chewed up curly tail as well as the expensive, holographic, new out of the box magic action stuff. Have seen them either reject or miss top water lures.
This is my view as well. The fish never told me why they do or do not bite. Reminds me of the banjo minnow. The commercials use to site that it was a genetic response...ie they just can't help themselves. It's like a guy in a strip bar sitting next to Miss USA. The dancer comes in, juggles her stuff, and BAM the guy just can't resist hitting it.
An ASA participant once told me about spooning vs live bait. He said that live bait is great, but a fish only hits it during small windows, and you never know what time that window is. Leaving for a lot of unproductive fishing...while a striper will hit a spoon 24/7
