    Default Mercruiser trim pump oil?

    What up fellas. I have a 1980 Mercruiser 470 I/O. Just replaced trim cylinders, and need to replace oil. Is there a special oil for this? Someone told me i could use atf fluid.
    Thanks

    If it was my boat I would only use the oil/fluid recommended for it.

    Default Power Trim

    Donzi;
    My manual says to use Power Trim and Steering fluid from Mercruiser.
    If this is not available you can use SAE 10W-30 or 10w-40 motor oil.
    This is from the Mercruiser manual.
    Hope this helps.

    Back in 1980 Mercruiser actually recommended 20wt motor oil. Later they changed to 10w30, or an available light weight engine oil. Any engine oil will work but heavier oils seem to make it operate slow in cold water. Also alot of people use trans fluid, which works but I don't think it's good to mix if that wasn't in there to start. I always use a 5w20 or 10w30 and it works good.

    Mercury makes a power trim and tilt fluid for use in that system.
