Got to the A.H. marina about 5:30 today and after about an hour only had snagged 2 bunker. We gave up and headed out of the harbor and right outside was the motherload of bunker schools. Everybody was inside the harbor and all the bunker were just outside. We snagged about 20 in a half hour and headed down around the hook to the Highlands Bridge. There didn't seem to be to much going on but we did see one nice striper caught. After about a half dozen BIG bluefish my one real started screaming and I had a nice striper on. A little while late we boated the 36" 20 pound striper. It made the day and was the only one caught. Headed back when the wind kicked up.

I just got back and I have nothing to report. Three guys and three bluefish. We caught the bunker and not much else the rest of the day. What the heck is going on? We searched high and low to no avail. Is it just me or anybody else having this same problem in the Raritan?

Rocky...I haven't seen any good reports from that area yet this season so I had to check it out for myself. I thought that last year at this time guys were really cathing down there. I know we were catching good bass into the second week of July off the H.B. last season. I'm hoping it's going to materialize any day now. It sounds like the best fishing is further south yet. I need to learn how to throw a net so I can cut some of my bait time down. By the time I snagged our bunker and got down there it had to be near 7:00.

Fish,
We are out of Catasauqua PA (a little north of A-town) and keep the boat in the Atlantic Highlands Maina. We will be heading out on Saturday. Any chance youre headed out as well? Shoot back a message if you are. We've been out 4 times this season with mixed results. hessingerb@rcn.com

Here are pics of 2 of the 6 I caught there 3 weeks ago. Total bass for the day was 20+ for 4 guys (we only kept 2, released the rest for you to catch):D.
Smallest was 18 lbs.

Go get them, they are there.

BJ...That's an awesome day. I haven't had a day like that yet there but one of these times it's going to happen. Just ordered a larger cast net to try and cut down the bait time. I should've made plans to go down there tomorrow and try.

Fishfinder-They are definitely there, you just have to know how, and where, to look. I was fortunate enough to become acquainted with a couple of people who know ! I've heard that a good way to learn is to spend a day chartering with someone who is familiar, and successful, with the area you intend to fish. If you become so inclined let me know and I can put you in contact with someone.

Good luck.
