Here is our latest report:
6/8/07: Was out with my mate, Mark Purpura for a day of fun up off Island Beach State Park in 38 feet of water. We trolled bunker spoons with great success. We Limited out early with bass up to 35 pounds. Not too many blues getting in the way. Big chrome spoon caught all the fish. Had a white spoon out, then changed to a shad umbrella rig and nothing on those. Just the chrome one worked. It caught all the bass and the blues.

Bunker spoons were 12" and chrome was the only one that produced. Ran them just off the bottom in 38' of water with wire line.

a tip that works for me.i fish the big spoons acme pets etc.some of them turned green from me not taking care of them.instead of throwing them out i painted them.my favorite color is flat black. if you do not have at least one you should try it.just like all lures on certain days they jump all over the black spoons and never touch the silver or white ones.i have also tried chartruese with mixed results.but always run a black one.i really believe your catch ratio will improve by using it.louis

Do you use a wheight and if so how big and how long a leader after the wheight?

Yes I use a mono leader of about 60-80lb test. No weights. I use wire line to get it down deep. 100' will get you down 10', 200' will get you to 20' and so on. The fish were in 38' of water so we let all 300' of wire out along with a little mono backing. The fish just had to come up a bit to hit the spoons. Thats what you want to be, right in the attack zone! Good luck!

How fast do you guys like to troll your spoons? I have found that 2.5-3 knts best when trolling for bass(stretches, umbrella's etc) but I just can't seem to get them to run right(not have had much luck w/ bunker spoons over the years). Plus my Bert does over 4 knts even w/ only one in gear. How fast do you guys run them and where do you position the weights on the spoons??

I found anything over 3 knts. and I have nothing but blues. I like to try and keep it at 2.5 knts.

I like to troll as slow as possible. About 2.5 knts to maybe 3 knots. If you cant get that slow then you need to bump the boat in anod out of gear until you can. Bass are lazy and want it slow and easy. Too fast and the blues get real excited!
