Hey guys,
Heading up to Maine, around Acadia park for vacation soon. I know they catch stipers up there in the late summer. I will have my pluggin setup and waders and will certainly give the beach a try, anyone ever fish up there?
On another site someone mentioned going out on a charter in the bays around bar harbor island, but I haven't been able to find any. If you know of any and could point me to them I would appreciate it!

Fished Isle au Haute in early september. No luck. According to the locals I was a couple of weeks late for the good bite. Caught lots of mackerel up to 2 lbs.:)

In DiBenedetto's book "On the Run" he fishes some river in Maine, I think.
I can't remember the name though.

I highly recommend fishing guide Patrick Haggerty 207-353-9182.
He will put you on the fish. This is the time of year to be there.
Please tell him John Fenerty said hello.

take your corkers. lots of rocks up there. and lots of real fishy looking rock points. I was only there 2 days before heading over to Nova Scotia but I threw artificial both days. got a bunch of mackeral on small spoons. didnt see a bass but they are supposedly caught. in hindsight, I probably should have fish mack chunks.

Tim, His address is Duram, (south of freeport), but he goes where the fish are. He is as dialed in as one can be up there. Catch em up. John.

Is it the Kennebec?
That's where the Bush's catch all their bass. Last year there was a picture of Jenna with a 20lb'er.:D

I have had returned tags from Moody Beach, Wells, Maine and from Bath, Maine
I was in Arcadia National Park few years ago and was told that very few stripers are caught in that area, most caught further south in Maine
Returned tag data indicated top water lures produced.
Be prepared for strong tides

Thanks for the info Willie, talked to fellow barner foulhook last night who told me the same thing, that you have to be further south than I will be. I may try to head down to Freeport and go on a charter or something, if not I will just stick to freshwater in the area. I'll take my surf plugging outfit just in case;)

Timmy T-
on 95 just as you enter Maine, stop at Kittery Trading Post. It is 20 seconds off of 95. Thi is just like an LL Bean - huge store. Anyway, the fishing department is incredible and the guys that work in there are ALL die hard fishermen. They will point you in the right direction and probably have some names for the Bar Harbor area. I may be wrong but I think the Kennebec is a long way away from the Bar Harbor area.
When I was there in June for a seminar series, guys were inadvertently snagging bunker on lures. several guys pulled them into the store and they ahd no idea what they were. One guy said he caught them in the saco river an dthat it looked like football fields of these fish. I would prepare for that kind of fishing because if they are still of our coast here in north jersey, I guarantee you that they are still in there harbors. Also, take or purchase long plastics like slugo's. Look for a product up there called Hogy's. They kill up there.
Kittery has all of this stuff - check them out!
good luck

thanks for the info Chris!
Isel au Haut is south west of bar harbor off of stonington, its where linda greenlaw lives (i think)if you want swing by and say hello. I am heading to the brunswick area in two weeks, I go every year, the bass are up there, not sure about the big guys since I am always just messing around from the rocks but there are plenty of places to catch fish if you don't mind the small ones.
