Procastinator called to let me know that he and his crew of Dave and Dave's 6-year old son hammered the big fluke on Thursday. (Don't you just love getting those "we hammered em!" reports when you just spent the whole day working?)

According to Pro, he took his "Rod Bender II" quite a few miles SE of Sandy Hook into some areas more traditionally favored for anglers targeting toothy critters. First few areas he plied were uneventful with only shorts and few sea bass. However, he eventually hit paydirt when one drift resulted in an instantaneous double-header of nice fluke in the 7-8 pound range for himself and Dave ... not doormats, but certainly nice placemats!!!

Repeated drifts in the area showed a good concentration of big fish in an extremely small area, so rather than continue drifting over them (which only gave them a quick shot before you would pass the spot) Pro decided to anchor right on his "MOB mark."

The choice to throw the hook was good one! While at anchor, the entire crew enjoyed a steady bite of big fluke and some bonus keeper sea bass. As an added bonus, being anchored enabled the youngster to truly catch his own fish much more easily. According to Pro, he was bailing them pretty good, and he ended with a few from 5-8 pounds.

Pro was especially pround of his catch of a 8-pound fluke in 60' of water on a light tackle spinning combo while using a 3/4 oz. jig. Now that's fishing a small light tackle offering in some deep water!  He didn't mention, but I suspect that jigs tipped with live peanuts were the bait-du-jour. ;)

At the fillet table, he turned the 24 placemats into an entire 5-gallon bucket full of cleaned fillets ... I'm guessing there's gonna be a "Hillbilly Fish Fry" up in Montoursville sometime next week. :D

Pro's out there again today, but sadly, I didn't get much of report, because I had to call him to relay the message that our 97-year old great grandmother passed away this morning. Pro said that he was going to catch a good one in honor of her today.

Our Nanny Grace was a sharp, old woman, and she was tougher than a Waffle House steak! Up until 2 weeks ago, she lived by herself in her own apartment in Shamokin, PA. She always used ot get so excited when we would give her fresh fish that we had caught, and one year Pro actrually wrapped up a 6-pound frozen trout in wrapping paper, becasue all she wanted from us was some fish for Christmas. She will be missed! :(

Very Sorry You Guys Lost Such A Great Lady But It Sounds Like She Had A Great Life.

I'm Glad That Pro Appears To Have Taken The Brothers Tourney Leed. It's Amazing How Good Politics Usually Win At Everything.

BIGGEST:

She certainly had a hard life and a long life ... whether it was a good one is quite debatable. She lost her 1st husband as a result of his drowning during a speedboating accident, and I found out later in life that her 2nd husband used to get drunk and knock her around quite a bit. :(:(

As for Pro's fluking improvement ... .well, he's coming around, but it's still very much still just a work in progress! I've been letting him catch a few here and there lately ... After all, the season is coming to a close, and I've just about run out of freezer space. ;) :D

However, I heard Pro commenting about the Iowa Senator scandal, by saying he no longer wants to be so closely aligned with the GOP ... he finally realized it stands for Gay Old Perverts!  :D

Jim, my condolences to you and John, to your whole family really. You've got the right idea by remembering her as the great woman she was and is in your memories.

Kurt:

She proved to me a long time ago that hardship can build some good character in a person! ;)

Later in life, you learn that hardship can build some tough characters too!

Thanks for the condolences!

What's the name on your Mako?

I'm sure you'll run into Pro (& probably me also) in the marina one of these days; I hope you swing over to say "hello!" when you see us.

Thanks for all the kind words about our great grandmother, guys! They are greatly appreciated!

Pro and I will be heading out together tomorrow (& possibly again on Mon.)

We're tossing a coin right now as to whether we should go beat up on some more offshore fluke, or whether we should head even further East to hunt for speedy and toothy critters. Decisions, decisions ??? ;)

Either way, we'll definitely dedicate our next outing to Nanny Grace,

Thanks everybody for the kind words. It was quite a weekend of highs and lows. Good weather one day, bad news the next. The good news is that the fluke are around, they are big, and they are hungry. If you don't like fluke, the seabass are gettin nice. I have to add some pics later. :)

I will just burn a whole lotta spots at once........don't spend too much time flukin in the bay, offshore rockpiles in 70 feet seems to be the ticket.:D
