Hannon gave me a box of the snakes when he was in town a few months back. he told me to keep them in the fridge..which I did..and therefore keep forgetting about them
I did remember a couple of weeks ago, and threw one at a local mucked-up pond that I normally throw frogs on. Caught 3 fish within a 15 minute stretch before I lost it in the reeds.:mad:
I don't really care for it in open water, but in the muck I thought it was great

I remember when he came, how hectic was that? That was in Bordontown I believe."The Bass Professor" he certainly earned his name with all those large fish. Nothing like a super chilled snake:D , glad to see one of elite people putting out a product instead of a gimmick. Sucks when you loose something thats working, especially in that short time period and you only bought one wit ya:(

 Mann's Bait comp. has a brand new 10" one piece hard nosed snake bait plastic.I like the feel of the action and it stays rigged because of the patented Hard nose engineering and design.
My Doug Hannon's are by far the Best Snake Baits,as a matter of fact the originator and the original from the 1980's!
shamoo and I recently had a discussion about them. The Bass Hit them during spawning season and the catch ratio % is highest during that time.
The Largemouth and spotted Bass have the natural tendencie to strike these snake baits out of a vengance and hate for them moreso than the need to feed.
Try running these baits between lilly pads and when the lure comes into a small open pocket between the pads...bring it to a second or five pause. That is when you will get the Strike.
Remember these baits run true to design and emulate most topwater baits.Because of this it is extremly important to hesitate a second or two when you see the explosive topwater strike. The snake bait along with many, many other topwater lures can cause frustration when fished improperly. The pause is needed because; If you do not hesitate...%90 of the time you will just take the bait away from the fish to quickly missing the entire bite.
I hd a difficult time teaching myself how to pause because most anglers,or at least bass anglers have that knee jerk reaction to immediatly set the hook when you first see the explosive topwater strike.
What I do to remedie this situation is to use a High speed(7:1.1)gear ratio reel along with bowing the rod tip to the fish as if I was watching a jumping Tarpon at the end of my Line.
I have sent away to Minnesota a few times for live Waterdogs and mudpuppys and found them to be very unproductive for some reason...Perhaps because they are not prevalent or indiginous to the South Jersey Areas and fisheries I hunt.
I utilize the Excalibur Spit N' Image when there is a cloudy/overcast day and weather conditions like a slight wind (Breeze) combined with a chop in the water exist.
Tight Lines!

If you like the snake imitations, a good one is a Wobblehead. I haven't seen any in this part of the country, but in the town I'm from down south you can't go 10 feet without seeing one on a locals rod during spring. All it is is a hook on what looks like half a powder coated conduit holder that you put a Creme worm on, and retrieve it like a slow rolled spinner bait. The slower you retreive, the more "snakey" the action is.

I've still got my orig. snakebait from the 80's, thank god!! I've used alot of different tail & hook combo's over-the-years, but the head is still intact & catching bass this year. Are the bodies still available?
I know I bought it in 84', can't believe it's still kickin' BASS! :D

I bought 9 from a "closeout" box in a small country store in AK on my way out to fish the White River in 1982.The heads were awesome
I have used them mostly in a few lakes just over the border in Canada(Devil's Lake/Ottys/Newboro,etc) between the Canadian opener and July 4th for the past 20 years. They really kick BASS at that time of year.
I am down to my last 2 heads and really appreciate the post.Buying some today
