Was hoping for some insight. Been surf fishing for about 2 years and I want to fish later into the season, so i was hoping for some ideas regarding waders. rubber/nylon vs neoprene which works best in the surf? what do you wear under them? I have seen "wader pants" on some web sites- are they a good idea? Any other thoughts or suggestion would be appreciated

Breathables are the only way to go IMHO. Layer up or down underneath according to the condtions.

Definitely light weight. Neoprene is for babies.
Just dress warm underneath.
If you're walking the beach a lot, get boot-footed.
Separate Wader boots fill up with sand and make it uncomfortable.

Agree with everything in this thread so far. Neoprene still seems to get you wet. The breathable waders are the way to go. I had a pair of White River bootfoots that lasted about a year. I now have a pair of Simms and they are the best and most comfortable I have had up till now.

Tight lines!

Get a good pair of breathables. Then go to Cabela's and get the fleece wader liners. You'll be all set.

Ditto on the above! I got my boot foot breathables at Cabela's too. They are great. As mentioned earlier, layer up or down depending on temperatures.

yeah i will also agree about bootfoot breathables
were you can where shorts under them early in the fall run and then fleece sweatpants later in the year.

but if you are really hardcore and fish into late dec.& jan. and like to have ice form around your waist
5mm neoprene - nothing keeps you warmer

breathables are the way to go.and when the temp drops below 35, just wear wool pants under your waders.now your warm and still flexible for the cold days ahead:)
