The 4500 is great for that size braid

4500...I was just looking over the 3500 tonight at Dicks and I felt it would not be enough. I already have 1 4500 and looking to grab 1 or 2 more.

3500 is more than enough, ive caught drum to 75lbs in full moon dbay current on mine, however that being said, i won mine in a contest, so for the little extra bit of money. the 4500 is worth the line capacity and maximum drag,
if you do choose the 3500 dont worry, its a lot of reel. i have no complaints.

3500 is plenty on a 7' MH rod I would spool it with 30lb braid.. 4500 on a 7' heavy rod or a 9' surf rod.. Ive caught pretty big fish on a 3500 with 30#PP on a 7' MH uglystick sometimes I put it on a St Criox but for the D-bay and stripers the 3500 with the Uglystick seems to be the right match.. For me anyway......

The 3500 spooned with 30-40# PP should be more then enough. I have 2 3500's and I use them all striper season both chunking and drifting the rips never had a problem. I've even take a few drum on the 3500's upto 75# I have both matched to 7' St. Criox tide runners Med-Heavy action. I have even had success with plugs when I didn't have a pluggign rod with me. I do have a 4500 spooned with 65# PP, but I main use that off-shore with pitch baits for Whites and Mahi. I use the 3500's more... The new 3500's are a little bigger then the older models, there is a noticiabel difference.

Nicky-
I think the 4500's are the ticket. I have 4500 and 6500 for striper fishing and although I like the added line on the 6500 I think they are too bulky for my liking. To me the 4500 is the Sh!t.

Young Gunz- we've got to get out there. I was out the other night and fish were breaking all over the place, I just couldn't figure them out. Ended clamming with a bunch of sea bass, a few nice weakes, and a trigger.

I have both, either will suffice. I would go with the 4500 with the 50 braid. I have a lucky rod with a 4500 mounted on a Fenwick that I have had for years. For some reason the rod out catches all my expensive fancy shit. It has several catches over the 50 inch mark loaded 30 braid. Good Luck!

Rodfather...that is ALWAYS the way it works...my newest gear sits idle while my old stuff I try to use as backups end up with all of the hits...

3500 for me, I have 5 of them, great versatility, they can be used for almost anything.

6500 is a monster, both the 3500 or the 4500 would just fine. I personally think you could get away with the 3500 w/ no problem at all. I own and use the 4500 in the FL Keys for light tackle shark fishing and have had NP getting in couple hundred pound sharks cruising the flats. :D

I like the 3500 with 30# PP on a MH Ugly Stick for Chunking Stripers in the DB. I also use it on a 8 Ft. surf rod for throwing metal.

I also havve the 4500 and 6500. Actually, the 4501 and 6501, because I like the left handed crank. Never could figure out why to switch hands after the cast. All my spinners are left crank and I have always used the 01's. I also have a couple LH AVET's. The only problem is going on charters for big fish, almost all reels are right handed cranks which is a little awkward for me, but I make do.
I don't think the 6500 series is too big. I have them on a 7' MH and like the extra power so I get more say with the fight.

I've been using both the 3500 & 4500 for a long while -
My preferance for chunking is the 4500 for several reasons -
1) Not concerned with weight of reel because of deadsticking -
2) Holds more line, so big fish won't spool out so soon -
3) Reterives faster than 3500, so it can keep up with a fish running back towards the boat better -
The 3500's I have I bought years ago when I couldn't decide between the 3500 & 4500's - But because of the above reasons, I now use em' for backups to 4500's, or when targeting smaller fish then the 50 inchers we're always looking for -
Hope this helps you decide -

My personal best is 46 " fish on a 3500 spooled with 50 p PP . St croix MH 7 ' rod. They always hit the smallest set up . That's why I always have one out .
