I was in the final legs of my 3.5 hour trip to Sandy Hook to retrieve some gear off the boat to take down to the ASA Cape May tournament when I got word that it was cancelled. Bummer ! :( So instead of comming home I thought I would see what a hurricane felt like to fish in. :D Thursday night I had nobody to fish with in the boat so I left her at Atlantic highlands, grabbed a small spinner and headed towards the hook in the suburban. I stopped short at the Highlands bridge and that was a good move. The striped ones were there and hungry. Caught a handful on 6 inch storm shads, and only one was a short. The bass looked healthy and fat, and bit and fought well at the end of the outgoing tide. Ventured out in a friends 26 foot Grady late friday afternoon, and couldn't put a catch together in the building seas. After a good feed session at Old Country Buffet, I headed back to the bridge and tried the other side, another good move. I was able to stay out of the wind and put a nice catch of 7 stripers together in short order with all but two being keeper size.:) I also had two real nice fish take me for a run down river that I wasn't gonna be able to stop, eventually cutting me off on an abandoned bridge pilling about 30 feet from shore. Saturday myself and two friends hit the bridge during the afternoon, but, fishing was real tough with the gale blowing up the river and the ripping tide, so we headed to Bahr's Landing for a hot breadbowl full of lobster Bisque. Headed out solo that evening and picked up two bass and called it an evening.
All in all an interesting weekend. I haven't casted from the shore for quite a while, and had a good time doing it. I wasn't gonna let some pissant storm ruin my weekend. :D
