I'm sure there will be quite a few suggestions on this one. But for the price vs. quality minded what are some suggested rod and reel combo suggestions for trolling?

There is no easy answer is there, you're right to ask Paul. But I don't even have much to troll. I'm an evolving fisherman coming from a kid with literally a can of worms and a safety pin hook in a local stream. Skip forward more years than I’d like to count through where I’ve put a few years in on IBSP and kept looking at the boats off shore. So now, a few boats later I’m in a 23’ cuddy that’s ideal for trolling. Came with 11 rocket launchers and a set of nice out riggers. I plan to fish as much bait as possible this year but want to move into trolling (cost of gas allowing) next year. I’ve followed threads about trolling and kept notes but haven’t seen much on rods and reels.
So to answer your question I plan to fish the Mullica River through the inlet and out front. No down rigger at this time. Willing to put in my time and to learn a new way to fish. But the bank account is not unlimited.

The Shimano TLD series (15, 20,25) is completely reliable and dependable. As for Rods - Seeker rods work for me. I am trolling different equipment for striper inside the 3 mile mark. Usually lighter tackle. Good luck:cool:

Ok I'll admit I don't know what a TLD is.
Shimano is the brand, TLD is the series of lever drag reels.
One of the best values available.

Bar Hopper, it is likely that with a rod of any quality you will spend between $100-200 per unit. Check my site, you can get a great all purpose rod, approx MH heavy action that can do most trolling, and can diamond jig, and bait fish as well. I agrre with most of the TLD recomendations. Penn does have a few at under $100 that are very reliable. Every rod can be your choice of colors, boats name, fish hologram. You can deck it out without spending much more than a factory rod. If any time you would like to make an appointment I can go over the details, Kevin Bogan
