Went out this morning to go blackfishing, but the weather didnt let me. There were some birds working by the Keansburg Hole, so decided to give it a shot. Tried with a 007 diamond jig first, then switched to a 1 oz white spro bucktail with a 4 " white fin-s on the back. Started catching bass right away. Total was 8 with the biggest around 36in. most were in the low 20 in range. the bigger fish were blitzing on peanuts and spearing.
when I cut him open he had 4 eels,2 baby oyster crackers, and a few crabs in his belly. all the fish came within a 45 min period. I was back at the dock at 10:30am

The night bite has been good.
I suggest you sail with Capt Danny on the Angler (Atlantic Highlands)

BlueDog, where is the Keansburg Hole? I know the area well but I'm not good with the names of the spots yet. Thanks

The keansburg hole is just north of the keansburg pier, about 3/4 of a mile. it drops from 8-20ft. My chartplotter shows it real well. If you get a chart of the bay it'll show it. It was also featured in the fisherman magazine a few months back. It was the hotspot of the week in the back. That whole area is loaded with bait, so you'll just need to look for birds. hope this helps,

Homeport Charts Raritan #42( I think), shows it very well.
Also Danny on the Angler is the best. Fished a lot of years with him before going it on my own. Looked like he was beating on them last 2 nights.

I second the Angler. Danny always puts you on the fish and Eric makes sure it hits the deck!!!

I was on the boat Monday night. I know what you're talking about "Eric makes sure it hits the deck"! So does the other guy Willie. They're not the only mates that I've seen do it, but I wouldn't want my fish body slammed on the deck, most of the time only serving to bruise the meat! It's not like it's a thrashing tuna or something that might wreak havoc on the deck! Or maybe they think it's more humane to knock the fish out or something? Whatever, just my 2 cents. Had I been lucky enough to catch a keeper that night, I would've politely asked them not to body slam it!
