This winter I'm planning on buying a new sit on top fishing kayak and am in the research stage right now. It's about time that I replace my Ocean Kayak Yak Board. I'm tired of paddling like a maniac and not going anywhere and I've been long overdue for a new boat. I'm looking into the Emotion Mojo Angler. Anyone have any opinions on this boat or any other fishing yak? I wish I could afford the Hobie Miraje, they look so awesome.

no doubt save for the hobie. instead of being a little happy with another, be real happy with the hobie

No question about it. Hobie. Hands free, plenty of stability, more efficient than paddling. In terms of a fishing machine, there is no comparison in my opinion.
Good luck !!!

Looking at the Prowler, I don't see what makes it almost twice the cost of my Scrambler XT. You could add the fishing stuff yourself. That's part of the fun.

If you can hold out for the Hobie I would but I know they are not cheep:( . The two I bought have seen quite a few fish already - if you are looking to fish on a Yak they are tough to beat.

A few shots of mine in action.

My wife and I will be heading to Sanibel next month and they will be going with me! I can't wait to pedal a few miles out into the Gulf!!!!

I will also be picking up one of these for Christmas to use on the trip.

It should be a great fish catching combo.

Sanibel, The suction cups hold well on nmew boats but after the boat starts to get scratched up they dont stick anymore. We have been experimenting with some new simple instalation methods for installing standard FF'S with good luck. I have the drybags battery holders in from hobie. They have a holder inside that holds 8aa's. We have also been using a hard dry box and placing the radio shack 8aa holder in it. We run the wire out through a hole in the lid and fill the inside of the lid with epoxy. The transducer youll want to mount inside the hull and shoot through with either the portable unit or conventional.

Ill be deer hunting this week in PA and then returning to open the shop till christmass.

I also agree to save for the Hobie, I have two other kayaks and if I'm fishing I am in the outback.

i have yet to price out these different models but it seems the hobie is the most popular. what kind of money are we talking about for one with basic rigging to fish with?

List price is $1750 and that is the only price dealers are alowed to qoute on a public forum like this. You need to shop around.

yes i see that (demo sales) i'm not sure what all i need so i guess a ride to see barrell is gonna be the first step. also what kind of clothing do you guys wear in the spring and fall i've seen drytops mentioned and wetsuits just curious because that could be an added cost that could get expensive also. (gotta sell the idea to the wife) i have grundens but wouldnt wanna swim in them:naughty:

Hold out for the Hobie. Barrell took me out last year at night by the OC bridge. Hands down the best fishing/hunting kayak around.

i was looking at the different models (hobie) and was wondering if width plays a very big part in stability. its not a big difference 3 or 4 inches, also the sport is around 10 ft long the others are upwards of 12 ft is this significant?

barrell

Dozer, 3 or 4 inches is actualy a huge difference in kayak widths. The sport is awsome for guys under 165lbs or with short legs. If you dont fit that description you will be looking at the Outback or the Revolution. If your in the 275 to 300lbs range then wait for new models in the spring.

thanks barrell i'm 5'7" 185 so i'm in the middle. i was looking at the hobies and the one model is 33 inches wide and i believe 12' long is there a big price jump to these larger models? that appears to be the one that i'm gonna look at. Its cross country season so it's tough to get a free day to take the ride down to you thats why i'm asking so many questions. trying to coordinate it with a beach trip. i really need to test out some since i dont have a clue as to what i want. looks like the hobie is the brand tho based on what i'm reading here so i'm gonna head that way. thanks again for the info.
