Once I saw a bass slither up a rock and grab a herring that had beached itself, I never would have belived it if I did not see it.

I once had a bass cruise into and hold in a shadow I was projecting on the water. Then dropped a plug on it, watched it hit and spit it out. Could not believe it that I did not feel the hit and that a fish could inhale the plug with three sets of trebles and spit it out without getting hooked.

We were hooked up with one yesterday, as it got to the boat I noticed it had another with it. The second proceded to try to eat the 2oz trolling weight on top of the water.

The first time that I took fellow Barner Volk wading with me, we watched a schoolie beach itself on the mud flats chasing bait. This fish did this at least 3 times before disappearing into deeper water.

The strangest thing that’s happen to me was a small schoolie bass 20 “ or so launch itself out of the water & hit my diamond jig in midair almost pulling the rod from my hand
I have also seen sharks up to 300 lbs & roll themselves up on the beach in the Bahamas (Walker Cay ) at night to get at fish carcasses & garage on the beach . Coming completely out of the water

about 5 novembers ago while on a head boat using eels I hooked into a rather large 40 inch plus bass, fought it and got to the boat, was calling for the mate to get the net and he was at the back of the boat, I was fishin the bow.
while waiting for the mate and keeping the fish in the water, another large bass came to the surface and tried to yank the eel out of the hooked fish's mouth.....I had two 40 inch bass on the same eel, one hooked, one bitin......the one that was bitin got pissed and gave one last hard yank..........before the net could get down there, the two large fish BROKE ME OFF>>>>>ahhhhhh sheet!!!:D

This happened about a week ago. Not saying this is strange but certainly doesn't happen very often. I was jigging up some bass mixed in with perch. The bite was pretty constant for a couple hours and the bass were hitting very light and you really couldn't tell what you had till you felt the weight. I hooked what seemed to a small perch and seconds later the drag was screaming. When I lipped the bass it had the perch's tail sticking out of it's mouth and the perch was the only thing that had a hook in it's mouth. There was no evidence that the bass was hooked in any way. Naturally after that I couldn't catch a small perch, only the jumbos. I was hoping to get a break from all that jigging.;)

I had a bass on an eel for a few minutes untill it came off. As I was reeling the eel in I saw either the same bass or another following it up to the boat and about 10- 15 feet from the boat it hit the eel. It was neat to watch him come after it

Had tangled line after casting a plug at slack tide on the Maurice River.
I just left the plug out there and worked on the line for a good 3+minutes.
All of a sudden .....crash ....a big striper smashed the floating plug as if it was pissed that it wasn't moving. It didn't take the plug - just smashed it with its body. Then all was still again.

The strangest--neatest--thing that I have seen a Striper do was 1st.--nice large one crash my Redfin so close to shore, that it just about beached itself, and 2nd. I will never forget seeing a beautiful 15 pounder jump clear out of the water chasing mullet.
The strangest thing that I have not actually seen a Striper do was crush a 5 1/2" Rebel. I fought that fish for quite a long time. It was making a 2nd. long run when suddenly my line went slack. I reeled in the line, and found the back half of my Rebel gone. Man! What a fish!

Using white perch as bait in the Delaware and as I was reeling it in after a drift it got engulfed by a 24" striper.
I was reeling as fast as I could and it was skittering along the top and he sucked it in....

I caught a 36" er on a hi-lo rig clamming...reeling in to go home. Hit it right in the suds like it was a plug. 2 seasons ago I was jigging and catching small 1-2 lb blues and schoolie bass. Hooked what felt like another cocktail got em 1/2 way up and all of a sudden he got heavy and strong. Made a couple of nice runs,I still think it's a bigger blue so I am horsing it up trying to get my jig down to the bass. I see color and bring it in close and I can't believe my eyes. A big bass has a 2 lb. blue sideways in it's mouth. My brain went into freespool before the reel did and she gave me that look that big fish will ...and she swam off leaving me with a blue with a mouth impression across it's body. I still can't believe how that bass held on that long with all that pulling and tugging without being hooked!

That must have been a Slammer Blue trying to steal the plug from that striper...I have had Blues bite weakies in half...Bite lures off from other hooked fish, but never had the lure come back bit in half..

On a party boat last weekend we were catching blues, blues and more blues. Every once in a while you would see a big 'ol striper following the blues up and eating the scraps as they were blowing chunks. At one point seen a large tail slap..bout a 30lbr!

Once saw a big Striper sitting on a sod bank eating a sandwich.
Saw another one bite the drain plug out of a boat just to watch it sink.
Saw a huge 50lb class Striper racing a Porpoise- looked like a tie.
Saw about 50 Stripers attack a Great White Shark. Shark swam away.
Saw Stripers playing a game of football against Blue fish. Hot looking weakies were watching on the sidelines.......

Fishing in the spring watched one jump off the stern of the boat & clear the engines, could have netted that fish mid air. That same day we saw countless amounts of fish jumping out of the water, none decided to take our offerings, NONE.

Joe, It wasn't a bluefish. I was fishing in a cove in Alameda, Ca. In the Navy at the time, and the only one who fished that cove. That night I was in the middle of the greatest night of Striped Bass fishing I ever had. Three solid hours of fish--all sizes. If I lost a fish during a fight, another bass would grab my plug before I got it in. I lost a number of truly big bass that night--hooks straightened, lines broken, and that broken in half plug. Don't know if I'll ever see a night like that again.:D

Once while fishing Calvert Cliffs area (Chesapeake Bay). Guy on my boat had a 16 inch bass along side of the boat. A bass that had to be, 30 plus pounds came up from below the boat and tried desperatly to eat the little fellow. Then disappeared.

This isn't really strange but a moment that still haunts me to this day, we were night fishing behind lbi with eels (when that was the main trend) about 8 years ago, my dad had already caught two bass when the rest of us had caught none, I got frustrated and took off my eel who had died on the hook and put on a fresh one. Well doesn't my dad pick put my dead one put it on the hook and drop it down and with in 5 minutes he had a bass on, i guess he had the hot hand that night.
