How would i go about catching my own Spot? Best time of year? Cast net? Are they found in the bay? Looking to buy a bait pen and keep my own spot for next year.

We caught them right off the beach this year using kingfish rigs. They were mixed in the surf with the kings. Not an expert but would say Sept is the best time, maybe late August as well.

Young-gunz,
You can castnet them if you can find them in a tight area like a skinny inlet with small rips. I was able to catch some in 12 ft of water letting the net sink to the bottom. Sept, Oct are the best months. They are hearty so should last in a pen but you have to feed them. I like catching peanut bunker and putting them in the pen with the spot...as the peanuts die, the spot eat them and then you never have to do any work. I had some last two months this year that way.
You can also catch them with light tackle rod and reel with sabiki size hooks with small pieces of gulp worm for bait but it is one at a time. Use the rod and reel to find them and then castnet that area.
Good Luck:)

at the girls place you can buy a small block of bunker chum or she has a couple sizes in bunker and mackrel or you can feed them your left over bait from each trip of even the scraps of the fish you catch from the day

We fished for spot in the Cesssy and used light tackle, small hooks and either or, blood worms cut into 1/4" lengths or artificial blood worms. They both worked great. There were 6 of us and we would catch around 100 or so in about a 1/2 to one hour.
Then we'd go for striper!
