My haul-out time was moved to late afternoon yesterday so I went out for one last Striper Trip from 10am - 2pm before heading to the yard. As soon as I turned the hook, I could see Birds working for miles. Started working fish at the range markers almost all the way to Ambrose Light before following them west to the Scotland grounds.
Could not buy a fish on jigs, crippleds, shads or live eels so I broke out small Tsunami 5 inch poppers and it was game on thereafter with the small bass.
Had one long drift for almost 30 minutes where the bass were nailing bait all around the boat and at times could see them breaking water and swimming right under the boat. There were a couple of casts where as soon the popper hit the water it was attacked before the bail could be closed. Casting the popper up current into the working birds was most productive. What a blast watching them pounce on the popper, made for some really exciting season ending fishing.
The guys trolling umbrella rigs with tubes were also doing well. Left them biting. Unfortunately, no keepers.
