THE GOOCH

Fished yesterday out of TI and got on the fish right away....it was 17 degrees and there were very few boats out and about. I get a few calls on the radio asking for radio check and then my location....Both boats asked how we were doing so I informed them of the bird plays and the general locations....then some other guy jumps all over me saying that i'm bragging and ruining it for everyone else....Why do people hate helping others so much? Its not like there were 250 other boats out there that were going to run over the birds.....we're all sportsmen and we all are spending hard earned dough to have a good time and catch some fish. I share all my info, inshore and offshore, if your good your going to get your fish either way so why not help others when the opportunity presents itself. We ended the day with over 60 bass to 30 lbs and I hope the others that I spoke to on the radio did just as well as we did.

The a##hole who was yellin wanted the first chabce to hone in on your spot,When you put it out he was gonna loose that chance. He would be the one to run through the birds then pull to within casting distance of you. That's because there's no other fish in the ocean except where you where.Oh by the way congrats on the good day any pic's???

In all my years fishing, I have never heard the radio chatter so obnoxious and vulgar. Horrible, can't even keep my radio turned up when the kids are around. Welcome to NJ, the state where nobody gives a s*&t. See ya out there tomorrow, good luck, gonna be a beautiful day. Joe/Dave "EAGLE".

Gooch, you sound like an honorable man and a true sportsmen. Don't let the people who think they own the ocean get to you. You did nothing inappropriate. There are a whole bunch of people I call them "owners of the shore" who create an issue related to fishing "spots" and locations. It's a big planet, it's only a sport and we should help each other out whenever possible. That's what a true sportsman would do, a real man would not cry over a few fish, he'd lend a hand or help a fellow sportsman out. I'm sorry you were the victim of some a**holes backlash on the radio, but this is NJ, the apex of selfishness and entitlement.
I thank you.

I could not agree more with you! At this point in the season if you are hardcore enough to fish yesterday or the day before, ( I fished both Wends was way way better) its perfectly fine to tell other guys where the fish are. Its way too cold to be all secreative. who the f cares at this point. just be cool.
You should try hunting in this state!
You did the right thing, don't let these dangerously inbreed locals spoil yor day.
I have fished and hunted pretty much all over this country and by far these a%$(*&#$ are the most backward, rude, ignorant, jerks anywhere!
keep being the gentleman you are.

Thanks for the kind replys. I try to treat others how I want to be treated and when you help people out its always seems to come back ten fold. Anyone who is willing to got at it in these temps deserves to catch fish and make the trip worth while. I just urge people to help each other out as much as possible on the water, the feeling you get when helping others find the fish is far better than just catching them yourself. For all those heading out I would suggest hanging tighter to the beach we had them thick in 35' of water off the spinnaker birds galore, all fish were caught on 3oz braid slammer jigs in silver color...we also had bigger fish just off peacock shoal but no birds just motoring till we found pods on the bottom. no birds out towards the avalon shoal and no marks. all fish were inshore. Hope everyone gets a chance to get out there again and catch em up...I usually fish out of ocmd and I have to admit the other guys down there seem more willing to share info and help oneanother out....tis the season

I AGREE WITH WHAT MOST ARE SAYING AND THERE ARE PLENTY OF LOCALS WHO HELP MANY.ON A WHOLE JERSEY IS A SELFISH STATE WHEN IT COMES TO spots. I HAVE BEEN ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FENCE(REC. AND CHARTER)AND THER ARE TIMES WHEN TOURNIES ARE UNDERWAY YOU KEEP YOUR INFO QUIET(NEVER LIE AND SEND SOMEONE ON A WILD GOOSE CHASE) THIS TIME OF YEAR THERE ARE NOT A LOT OF BOATS ON THR WATER SO HELP OUT. HELL EVEN OLD MAN FU (WHO JUST GOT A TATOO OF PICKER ON HIS RUMBLE SEAT)WHEN AWAKE WILL HELP ANYONE. NEXT YEAR THERE WILL BE LESS BOATS ON THE WATER AND THE ONLY SECRET spots WILL BE AT THE OLD GROUNDS.

I was out and heard that whole thing. If it had been a weekend and or a nice it might have been an isue. But is was SOO COLD! You were right on.
On the flip side.
Yesterday was nicer. I called a friend in on some really light action and had 5 boats follw him. Not a problem but one boat kept going into the birds. Not through them but into them. I would be jigging the marks and he would motor right over the fish and into the birds and kill the action.

You did the right thing. I was fishing off Stone Harbor Sat. morning bailing bass with 2 or 3 other boats. I called in some friends via phone and told another friend over the radio we were bailing. Someone asked me on the radio where we were and I told them the location.. When I hung up the radio I looked at my friends and they said we've caught plenty...that was cool.. About 20-30 boats came in over the next hour (It looked like a rod bending contest) and got on the fish off Hereford. Its all good, hopefully you will benefit from someone elses generosity one day...

Can we just say some locals? Been here 26 years and I love to give out info. Somedays I need a little help and I get it. Some locals might even use the Bass Barn to get fishing info but won't give any, how dare they.

the only trouble about telling people where you are fishing is that 2/3 of the people who have boats don't know how to fish a school of fish I have seen boats come flying up to you on breaking fish and run into the middle of them and down they go or a charter comes trolling through them and same thing again we use our cell phone to tell our friends where we are sorry but i have been having a good day fishing and 1 as-h--- ruins it thinking parking n the middle of a school of breaking fish is the correct thing to do or they pull up in front of you and start fishing sorry only tell friends who i know will fish right where i am

Have to agree with Murf, shame you can't give out info over the radio because of all the cowboys that show up and run into the middle of the birds instead of fishing the edges, run back right over where everyone is drifting in the rips instead of circling around etc.
If more guys would use a little common sense then maybe information would be shared more freely. While some of the "cowboys" don't know any better due to inexperience there is a lot of them that know better but just flat out don't care!
