Perhaps you haven't been reading any of the reports. I suggest getting out on the water, NOW! No boat? Try a charter or head boat. Stripers falling off? Try Tog... Damn tasty and too much fun to catch.. If you don't giggle after finally extricating a white chin from the hole that it has attached your rig to on the last five drops, you probably shouldn't be fishing! Too cold to go out front? Well, I suggest purchasing a good set of thermies and manning it up. In lieu of that, think outside the box. Schoolies like warm water outflows mostly all winter. Of course, access to them is much more difficult now than it was before 2001. Herring can be lots of fun on very light tackle even when the mercury is falling. Haven't done that in quite a while, but that used to be a Feb stand-by for me. Yes, I did mean February! Pull the truck right up to a pier and drop a sabiki... In and out of the cold as necessary. No one but your fishing partner around. Mini tarpon going airborn! Once again, if you ain't giggling, try a new sport!
Just remember, every fish in the area doesn't leave for the winter. Those that stay just become a sluggish. It takes a little planning, I suppose, but you can always find something...
If nothing else, find a little time to read about fishing. Expand your knowledge, or just dream about it... Papa Hemingway penned a great story, a quick read about a man named Santiago and a lad named Manolin... A disciple if you will, taught how to fish by a man few believed in..
