Unbelievable!! I have never seen this before. I find it hard to believe that a species such as the striper that was so depleted at one time not too long ago is being fished for like this. Pretty annoying.

Totally legal. Whether or not it should be is another matter.
These guys are doing nothing wrong as far as the law is concerned.

If the law says it's ok, then whats wrong with what that guy is doing? If we could keep 10 stripers a day, would ya??

Maybe you all should stop prancing around behind a keyboard and go down there and protest it so that way the locals could laugh right in your face,i am just glad to see that NC still supports their comm fishermen

I defy any reader of this forum to spend a day with a NC gill netter and then honestly say you are against what they do. This is hard work.
They use a dory to get the nets out in the f***ing surf. The easy part is the haul in with the truck. The technology is better now, but it still requires natural skills. These fishermen learned from their fathers and grandfathers. The video is a testimony to a dying breed.
Commercial haters will inevitably get their wish. Economics, attrition, the GREEN movement, history and politics guarantee these folks will be wiped with prejudice.
No wild stripers allowed in the fish market. Farm raised stripers are the GREEN alternative and tastier. Blah blah blah bunch of

They should just be catching them from a boat.

The only one prancin on a keyboard is you...Most of the posts on this topic have had intelligent or thought provoking content except for you. I'm sure you are one of Seahawk's close relatives(maybe his lil' sister). I would be in favor of a protest, and can also do so from the confines of my own computer. I'm guessing you are one of those barners who never finished high school. If you want to go fishing like a man...give me a shout...

Yeah sorry to inform you but i did infact finish High School and yes i comm fish as well pretty much all of my close friends so yes i have a pretty good idea on how the system works with these kind of issues and fisheries, and how exactly do you fish like a man what do you do so differently from everyone else i would really like you to enlighten me on that topic i am sure it will be a good one!

Exactly it shows that Nc politicians support their local comm fishermen, meanwhile you have others up here crying the blues over a perfectly legal fishery that has been going on for a long time.Haven't any of you out there seen the bumper stickers that say support your local comm fishermen!
Seems to defy logic to support a group that treats the species you love to fish for, like it was a crop. It may be legal , but it doesnt make it anymore pleasurable to watch.

The logic behind all is enough to drive anyone crazy.. It's no different then all the by catch from other com fishing, scallop boats, etc.. I know some scallop fishers, they tell me about the amount of flat fish that get drug up in the bag while catching scallop, most die.. And most due get tossed back, do they survive.. We dont know.. Im sure there are big numbers of by-catch out there everyday that do not survive the drag and or dont not get tossed back over in time to survive.. Do we shut these guys down... No... they are doing their job catching the seafood we will enjoy for dinner one day.. Can we stop the by-catch... No.. You will never stop that. You can only hope to impove the problem, but not to hurt the guy trying to make a dollar..It's a double edged sword.. It's not something we all as rec fishers should be fighting each other over.. We all enjoy to go out and catch the fish, some indulge more then the other.. I dont get out as much as i would like, and i dont catch as much as i would like when i go.. But i do follow the rules set.. If i only take home 1 fish to eat. thats fine with me.. Im going all over the place here. Im done..
