Anyone ever fish off of Block Island? Looks like the wife and I are going there this summer. She hates boats but I think I may try to get out on a boat fishing for a day. Any reccomendations would be appreciated!

Never fished there, but was watching a show on TV last night where they were striper fishing off Block Island and catching 20-30lbs non stop. They mentioned catching a couple 60lbers and 50lbers there also. Dont know what time of year but i would say they are there just dont know when.

Great striper fishing off Block Island all summer. Fish the channels on the incoming / outgoing when the fish are on the feed and all bets are off. Guaranteed you will catch. There are also allot of "flats" where they sight fish with fly rods for them. Kind of like the bonefish of the NorthEast. A good sight to read up on them is YankeeAngler.com - Randy Jones is a well known guide for flats fishing in the summer months. He then switches gears and does Salmon / Steelhead all fall, winter and spring out of Pulaski, NY on the Salmon River...hope this helps.

I remember reading an Article from the SWS in 2006 that the flounder fishing is excellent off the coast. I wish I had the mag to tell you what month/issue.

I also saw that show show last night. Your right they were catching some really nice fish on eels. They didn't say what time of year it was but it must have been warm because they were wearing shorts. I still love fishing for stripers in the colder months.

We trolled with tubes tipped with sand worms and wire most of the time. My friends went back again last year but I passed on that trip because I'm not much of a fan of trolling. They did alright.

My good friend Capt. Dave Chieffo owns the Island Home on Block and he runs 2 boats off the Island. Google Block Island Fishing Charters and Dave and his wife are SUPER people....feel free to drop my name....
