New to the saltwater fishing world but i already have equipment and flies. Im thinking about getting out right when the season starts....
Im a big flyfisherman and i fish out of GE inlet and the backwaters. Just wondering if you can get any action on the fly most importantly in the inlet, but information on fly in the back waters would be cool too :)

hitting the rocks along inlets is definatly advisable, as is hitting sod banks and outflow creeks, along with shallow flats in the back bays.

I spend a little time with the longrod every year, I suck and still catch fish. So to answer your question, yes you can definitely catch with the fly.

I have done well with small clousers on my 8 wt rod, it has enough backbone to handle decent sized fish but light enough not to be overkill when the small fish are around.

Zar is right, sodbanks, creek mouths and shallow flats. I fish mostly tidal creeks and around sandbars and they both produce.

Start looking around the Power Plant in March and move up the Egg Harbor for the early Run, Streamers in the flats should get shorts and maybe a spawner when the HERRING are running.

Look for the topwater bite to turn on sometime in may on the sod banks in the thorofares behind the inlet. You'll find blitzing conditions around the inlet during the same time period, but you'll find mostly blues, slower and deeper will catch some bass in the mix.

At times the fly rod is just what the striper ordered but when the conditions aren't perfect don't forget the other methods.
