Who use's a log book for fishing? I have noticed a lot of people disscussing this recently. I would like to pick one up. Is there one on the market that has all the important information printed up already. If so which one is it, and where did you get it. I need something that the wife might not use for the grocery list.:D

Date, tide, location, weather etc.

Thanks, Mike

a friend of mine uses a tape recorder while fishing, then notes everything down when he gets home. But me, i did enough notes when i was in high school, the only time a write is when i am signing a check, which is rare now because i pay bills online:cool: .

I'm not sure about a book made for logging fishing info. I used to keep one using excel but I stopped because now I remember everything:rolleyes: ...or maybe I'm lazy. I'd note stuff like date, location, time, tide, water temp, wind, lunar phase, pressure (falling, steady, etc.), what worked, what didn't.

I haven't seen a notebook specifically made for a fish log. I have heard of software. I use a plain composition book. I've been keeping 1 since 1998. Very good idea because you'd be amazed how much you forget and how the yrs. and trips run together. We're not getting any younger and the memory isn't getting any better;) I just write any and all info. I think important from each trip. Also keep boat maintenance and fuel info. in it.

Same here, I just use a standard note book to log things like location, water temp, tide, depth, bait, color, etc. You’d be surprised on how often the fish are right back in the same area, eating the same thing, around the same time, each year. Also very useful for tracking maintenance and cost, not to mention it’s fun to read when you are at the boat in the middle of the winter do a project or just checking to make sure everything is all right.

Log books for fishing are out there, keep plugging away. I had one that was specific for it, waterproof, tear proof etc.... It was years ago I bought it but I am pretty sure it was from bass pro shops. I've always tried to use them mostly in my freshwater fishing but started to pick it up for salterwater when I fished the FL Keys on my own. I have many pages full of good notes that I refer to time to time. Sometimes I get lazy and don't fill it out. Since then I've created a small Access DB that I log my info into the computer and of course back it up. I also recall a site out there that had pre fishing log forms made up. All you had to do was print and put into a binder and keep dry. I also have that laying around as well with info it. I feel it's worth it big time but it takes time, each and every fish you get into you need to write down the time and conditions, lure etc.... Sometimes in a flury of action or lack there of you forget. If your familar with the water your fishing, you can rough estimate some of the info..! :)

I've been using one for the past two years and its great. I log the Date, Water Temp, Water Clarity, Species, Favorite Bait/Lure, Moon Phase, Sea Conditions/Wind Direction, #'s, Crew, How many Gallons we burned, and then a Report Section for anything I might have missed and think of when im out there. I see that your from Monmouth County but a tackle shop in Berlin called Shoreway has them for like $25.00. At first I was using a calendar book and logging the info in that but now I just went on word and made my own. Who needs to buy one when you can do it yourself.

I created my own in MS Excel and keep track of fuel useage and engine hours also. If nothing else its a way to prove how much or little you have used the boat and also keep track of the who, what, where and when.

The good news about a spreadsheet is it doesnt get wet and I dont need a shelf to store it on. :)

I used to log in a book, now I log reports in MS Word...

I like the book better...you can more easliy flip throught the pages...so now I print them as well and add them to a loose leaf binder for reference...

I use one, have since 1996. I buy a spiral notebook made of index cards, to keep the price down. And they hold up well in wet conditions.

I record:

Depature time
engine hours
crew on board
area fished and waypoint numbers
conditions
water temp
catch report
hours fished
arrival time
Fuel fillups, and gallons per hour, costs
Maintenance items, like oil change

and I always have pictures in there of trophy catches...at least I can show the crew what we are trying to do:D

I started one a few seasons ago - I forget to track about 20 percent of the trips - but the info I do have really helps.

BW and WM have them waterproof and premade - VERY easy and perfectly put together

I've always wanted a log, but was too lazy to actually do it. This year I'm using an old Day Planner to keep my notes in. I'm also going thru last years reports to take notes of how I did last year. BTW, I've picked up a few tips just by reading all the reports again.

We log everything, have a log for fishing trips, you can pick one up in any Marine store. It has everything that ya need, weather, boat, crew, all that good stuff. Also keep a super detailed maintenance log, with hours, part numbers, dates, and services performed. Then, to top it off, we keep a receipt log, all those stupid little receipts get filed also. Really helps. You can compare the fishing logs to past years, dates and times. Joe/Dave EAGLE

If you have Sprint/Nextel there is a ESPN fishing program you can download on your phone for like 5.00 and it has a log built in. Also gives you weather(current, hourly, 5 day, live doppler), moon phases, fish calculater, baromoter, etc.

I jot down notes on a regular note pad on the water. Then do my trip in paragraph form on the puter when I get home. Then just save it to a file named......guess......Fishing Log

My buddy writes dates and #'s on the helm with a marker. You should see us trying to decipher them a year or later after a few cocktails
