Captain Tim,

Nice work on the 54 pound bass and release of the fish.

Sorry guys, forgot to mention that! It was caught drifting a Eel!

My Uncle’s (Keyman) personal best striped bass (46 inch, 42 pound) was caught this past weekend with Captain Tim and Captain Paul of Clean Sweep Charters (see reference in January 20, 2008 post "Clean Sweep Virginia Beach report from this weekend") using the same technique.

WOW!!! and here I am sitting at work like a fool :( congrats on the fish!!!

Steve,

I hear that. I'm jealous!

Thanks Steve! I knew it was a matter of time till we found were they really were!

Captain Tim and Captain Paul are giving those good ole Virginia boys who troll for striped bass a run for their money on light tackle!

Skip,

I would agree with you, even though I’m not a big fan of trolling.

My Uncle (Keyman), cousin (Skmag357), and I had our first trip south beginning in January 2006. Our first trip was in January 2006 to the Outer Banks, NC with Captain Donnie Davis of DOA charters (on your reference), but the weather didn't hold up for us. Donnie took us out; however, because of the weather there were no fish, even though Donnie looked hard to find them. We originally started to fish on light tackle, but Donnie switched over to trolling deep diving plugs to cover more water. While trolling Donnie pleaded with us and I quote “Please don’t tell Skip we were trolling for fish. He’d kill me.” We got a good laugh out of that.

Good luck on your trip and give Donnie my regards when you see him.

Douglas

DouglasDouglas,

When I first started doing some research on a trip down that way for bass I must have called 20 different boats until I found Donnie..I asked everyone if they trolled or casted...19 said they only trolled amd Donnie was #20 ...he said he "hated trolling":D ...As a captain..I understand that somedays you have to do what you have to do. Next season I plan to try trolling some if need be...someday's that bait and fish are so scattered that it might be your only shot. I'll tell Donnie you said hi;)

Come on Skip, you know there is nothing like having the WWB go off and cranking that thing back to the boat........oh wait, nevermind, I still prefer to jig them up with metals and bucktails too, matter of fact I prefer that over drowing spot too, although spot are such a great bait. That fish is a pig........nice job capt & crew.

Nice catch guys, lets see some more pictures.

You guys staying on the Eastern Shore or out of VB area.

I love the CBBT area, you catch that one fishing the deep water off Cape Charles or more toward Plantation Flats?

Mike,
We caught it about a mile off the point. The last time down we stayed at VA Beach resort.
Next time down I'll be taking pictures so we'll have plenty of them to post!
