Hey Ryan,
Don't worry i won't steal your fish.I can find my own. I have been looking. Just wondering if anyone has seen any. Isn't this site supposed to be informative with reports and such. Not a big deal dude. Your comment was rude and uncalled for. Why don't you stay in PA with that attitude. Go scratch off.

Dont worry I dont fish up the creeks for herring so you are not stealing my fish, but chill bro. But for the people who I get a little POed when I see people posting, Are they here yet? Or I keep driving over the bridge but I am not going to try until I see fish caught. It was a little bit of PUI and I picked your post to respond to. BTW, do you think the people fishing a bridge are gonna be swinging them over for everybody to see?
Ill try to stay to in PA for four days to work, but then its back to the Garden State.

Actually the more you stick around the more you find most fishing sites become a place where people can brag about all the bigguns' they caught in their secret spots and get really mad when anyone helps a new guy out. But take the good with the bad and there are always helpful people out there who will help you out even if it has to be secretly so they don't get flamed and run off.

Great response!! Had an amusing evening:D Checked the forums to find out what's happening. Between the Striped bass and this forum, Comedy Central's got nothing on us fishing people. Is it human nature to try and get the last word in?? I hope that when the fish start biting, we can all look back at these messages and laugh at ourselves!! I just might cancel my COMCAST subscription and tune in here daily for laughs and drama. Thanks, guys!!:)

I think of myself as a pretty helpful person. I try to answer questions whenever I can, I respond to emails, I give away rigs, lures and crap to less experienced fisherman that are out on the water. I dont think Im a great fisherman, but I think I am halfway decent and I put a lot of time in to get that way. Nobody gets mad when you help a new guy out and thats what the site is all about, but putting a dude onto fish is not helping him out and it is putting more people into a spot that a small group of guys have been fishing for years. I know I am going overboard here but if guys get into the sport by being told where the fish are all you are going to have is a thousand guys looking for hints on the internet, if you actually teach someone how to fish then they can catch fish in any county, on any bridge, on any sodbank. Helping someone is not posting spots or posting that fish have showed up, you cannot learn those things from behind a computer screen.
Bottom line, if you ever met me on the water I will help you out like none other. I wont spout off spots to you, but Ill give you a couple places to try and try to help you get fish. On the internet I think the best I can do is try to answer questions like what lure should I be throwing in early spring for stripers around the back bay bridges?

Ryan i'm on your side.....Theres only so many places that herring are caught and when the word gets out that they are in it looks like opening day of trout season and its hard to get out there and get in a spot with all the traffic....If i sat here and waited for some one to post that the herring or any other kind of fish are in, it would be too late....they would have been there a week before....I burn so much gas and time looking for the fish. and many days and night getting skunked....and I am not going to be the first to say that anything is in so now it gets so congested I cant fish myself....I am not selfish by any means....if it was a huge body of water like the D bay and something has started going on, I would have no problem posting...but when it comes to finding you little hole on a tiny stream for the herring I wont say anything either..anyone really goes out and puts time in for herring understands....

A) why are certain people getting heated about herring...I posted something about herring a few weeks ago...if I bothered you ryan with that post...ohh well!
B) This is why I have trouble with this site sometimes. People and comments like that turn me off to this BS.
C) Its fishing...we arent in competition...GET OVER IT.
I apoligze to the person who started this thread. I caught herring this weekend...they are here.

I dont think he said anything wrong...I think alot of over sensitive people are commenting on this....He just mearly said "go look for them" like every other serious herring fisherman does.....Thats what I do...I go look for them...some days I get nothing and some days a couple and some days enough......And if you already have caught them why didnt your post that they were here? ahh see.....People are making this post out to be a big deal and its not.....And the herring have been here for a week and a half....and I know this because I went several times looking and got the skunk...and then finally I caught......No one called me to tell me that they were here..I WENT LOOKING FOR MYSELF....

I was about to post that we got a few saturday night until i read that crap. I put the same if not more time into fishing then anyone else. I have been after them for over a month. I was excited about the fact that they are here but some of these people on here take that excitment right out of it. There are people on this site that have absolutley ruined and destroyed spots that we have been fishing for years...spots that not alot of people knew about...
I am sorry if I am coming off strong...I am not that guy...I would fish with anyone and take anyone out fishing...Some of my best friends i met fishing on the bridges and we still fish together every weekend. I get fustrated on some of the stuff that is said on here...and of course that is not directed to everyone on here.
Now for the post i was going to put on here...!!
We caught a few herring in the back on red diachi sabiki rigs before high tide...the back was loaded with shrimp and spearing...heard two pops along the sod bank. The herring were right under the surface.

My brother and I started striper fishing in 2006, and a few people on here have helped out very much. Not everyone can get out on the water as often as some lucky others, so tipping someone off when there's some action arriving isn't terrible or cheating. I'll tell you what cheating is.....I had to call the police to report 3 "adults" fishing (poaching) trout 2 weeks before opening day yesterday. Thats called cheating, not tipping people off when fish have arrived. It is possible to say fish are around but also discrete about it. Good Luck to all ;)

Let me give some herring hunters a little advice. Ther are popular SPOTS (i don't need to name) and SPOTS that nobody goes to.
Herring run for fresh water that runs to the salt. Our rivers. Some of these rivers have smaller creeks that also lead to fresh water.
Get your maps out fella's!! Thats what I love to do. I have a place I get herring every year, and I'm almost always the only one there. Unless I call candyman;) . Sure most of them go the bigger route, but you'd be surprised what the unbeaten path will show you.
Explore, especially when the run is strong.;)
