Hey guys I am looking to stock up on jig heads. What size and shape do u recomend? I fish from bridges, sod banks, and from the surf. Thanx for the help!

Everything and anything you can get!! They all work great man!

Somedays you get them on tiny ones like 3/8 and sometimes you need 3 ounces!

They all work! worry more about what is going on them as far as curly tail or something!

Unfortunately, the post above contains an untrue statement regarding jig-head weight.

Jig head weight certainly matters in terms of presentation. A properly presented candy wrapper will outcatch a poorly presented Fin-S most every time.

For fishing on top of bridges, start with 3/4, 1 and 1 1/2 ounce heads.

For sod banks, start with 1/8, 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2.

Figure out how you want to separate the sizes, as it is often hard to discern which size is which, let alone in the dark on a cold, wet sod bank. I often buy different styles in different sizes to make it easier.

Not trying to be a smart ass, but get a few of every size.

1/8-1/4 shallow water (up to 5 feet)

3/8-1/2 for faster water, (sods)

3/4-1oz for deeper water (boat/Rips)

If you will be jigging deeper lumps, 2oz+ might be needed.

I like kalin's ultimate for most of my plastics from 3/8 up to an oz in the back. Shad heads from paddletails and I have been using football type jigheads a little bit recently. Whatever you do, just make sure they have a quality hook or are you going to go home POed when she straightens out on you, and it will eventually happen if you arent doling out the cash for decent heads.

Exactly what snichols said, I use 1/4 or 3/8 around the bridges at night.

Hope to get you out this soon, Tim, tell Trevor its on, he was asking the other night! See you guys soon.

Hooks on jigheads are most important. Make sure what you buy has nice strong prefferably Siwash hooks by a good manufacturer. All sizes may be necessary at some point- use whatever allows you to keep your lure in the target zone the longest
