Was up early looking at the surf, first look showed a swell fighting with a tide that was to high. Noticed acouple of gannet up in the air. I look down to the inlet and there's a few thousand! I go into a panic shoot down to the inlet, pull up and there's acouple hitting the water but most of the gannets at this point seem to be moving north. So I shoot down to the ti bridge and that's when for a brief moment,on the south end of sea isle, it looked like it really came together. I mean it looked like a cloud just fell from the sky and smashed the water. Then I'm driving over the bridge, I go to 80th st and there sckattered and doubleing back to the inlet. Was like all hell broke lose for a little this morning, I guess there on herring, but can't sit here and not wonder if you could have pulled a bass out of that. Don't need any coffee this morning!:D
Worth the dollar to see that! Were they in close John?

They were about 75yrds off the beach, and for a few seconds, they were as thick as they get. After I drove over the bridge I realized I didn't have any money on me cause I was pretty much still in my pj's. What a few thousand gannets can do to fishermen. Have to fill out this white slip and return it with my dollar at lunch. Was happy that the nice guy was working, he's a riot!:D

Musta been a big bunker school in tight because they were really hittin it..

I was working on the OC boardwalk and saw alot of bird action just south of GE inlet. It moved southward till music pier then broke up. Alot of gannets in the mix. Too far out to see if there was any fish busting. Makes a day a work harder when u see this. There was a clammer working the inlet yesterday. It's all comeing together real soon.

I'm thinking next weekend (if weather conditions cooperate) may be worth an extra long outing :D And if you know what my average outings are like, it could get dangerous on the ride home  DJ - will you be on your feet by then? If so, I know a couple of guys that may want to make a visit. :D

Havn't heard of or seen any fish caught in the surf. Also havn't seen any boats out front checking out all of this birdplay which has been pretty incredible for more than a week now. I'm sure that will change over Easter week. There have to be some bass hanging with these schools of bunker.

You guys did not miss anything today - it was down right nasty - howling wind and the water was very dirty. I picked up a couple herring but that was all. Not a good day for fishing from the surf.
I talked to a few other guys fishing and they did not have any luck either. I did see one skate though.
I left at dusk, the wind was dying so I am sure the water will be clearing fast - Saturday should be much better.

Got up and gave it a look this am. North wind came up and switched the conditions up a bit. Gannet seemed to be coming from the south and tracking north. Flying low and only poping up for a look in the area of there hunting grounds. Hopefully they'll come together again in the next couple of days.......?

Have gotten into the bird plays but all I do is spook them. Can't say 100% what the gannets are feeding on but, I did see a sea gull get one and it was too big for him to eat. It looked about 1lb to a 1lb & 1/2 and about 10 inches in long? Have thrown metal and a swim shad, with no luck.Maybe tonight?
Big Thanks to Insomniac who tipped me off to the mega play! Thanks Bro! Should of went to where you said right off the bat, I bit on a smaller one that kinda never came together.:o Happy Easter to you and to everyone here. :)

Happy Easter AF. Man never saw that many gannets in one area. Maybe the bunker schools are making a big come back? That, or giant herring schools.
