Severna Park Thief Arrested for Selling Stolen Goods on Ebay

Alltackle.com and at least four other Maryland fishing tackle dealers were recently victimized by Patrick Taylor of 509 Hodges Ln, Severna Park, MD. Over a period of at least 5 months, the thief gained the trust of the store personnel as a regular customer of each shop, hanging around the stores and systematically stealing high quality, high priced fishing gear.

The thief used concealing clothing to pocket the goods.

The thief then utilized an ebay store and Paypal.com payments to fence the stolen goods. http://stores.ebay.com/DISCOUNT-SUPPLIES-PLUS

The thief was arrested on April 2nd and his home was searched which uncovered some of the unsold stolen goods.

The thief’s known ebay sales were in excess of $30,000 over a 4 month period.

Alltackle.com stores in Annapolis and Ocean City were victimized by the Ebay Thief. Alltackle’s total losses are currently being determined, but appear to exceed $10,000 in the preliminary counts.

damn, $30K in 4 months of hanging around bait shops talking fishing? I might have to take up a new hobby! I dont know how you become a trusted shop regular in 5 months though.

In all seriousness, I am surprised that more stolen gear is not found on e-bay. You know 90% percents of the dirtbags are dumping it there.

As a retailer myself I love hearing abou it. I have caught guys in business suits with tie on sticking sunglasses in their dress socks. I have caught mothers sticking bikinis under the baby in the stroller. I have caught people with wire cutters cutting the security tags off the clothing. I always prosecute. Most shoplifters make a purchase when they are stealing. Only the obvious ones get caught. Its the regulars who you know who get away with it because you tend to let your guard down and not watch them. A smart thief will also come in when he knows you are realy busy like a saturday. Or a holiday weekend. Cameras are cheap now. If A thief thinks he is getting video taped he will go elswhere.

Restitution could be ordered by the court. But you would have to have a pre existing police report on file describing the property stolen. I would guess that this guy won't be able to pay his bus fare to court.

THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT, THE CROOK GETS TO KEEP THE MONEY FROM THINGS HE SELLS ON E-BAY.

It would be easy for a prosecutor to check all of his transactions on e-bay & PayPal. If the items matched what is reported missing from the retailers I would think he could be easily prosecuted.

Does he own it or up to his ears in payments?

My guess is that the bank owns the boat. We will find out in court.
