I've been trying to figure out just how much the tide affects the striper bite. Some posts have talked about morning and evening bites, even night bites, but did not mention whether tide played a role in the bite. I would like to hear from some of those more experienced striper catchers on tides effect on the bite.

Depends on what location and what time of the year you are fishing it. Try fishing different areas at different tides and times keep a log of what is best for the areas you fish. I have areas that are good on a falling tide and other areas that are good on a rising tide.

It depends on a number of factors. Early in the year I seem to do just as well on incoming tide as an outgoing. Once the water warms and the bait starts stacking up, 90% of the time I do better on an outgoing.

Most of my fishing is in the Absecon Inlet and intercoatal area behind Brigantine, and on up into Great Bay. Don't want to mention specific area's, but just a general vicinity. I am trying to go tomorrow and high tide is 6:42 PM @ Atlantic city and about an hour behind in the back. Low tide is @12:26 PM . I am planning an afternoon start at say 3:00 PM 'til ? I fished the low to up early last year without much luck and was trying to not re-invent the wheel. There seems to me to be all the info needed on this site. You guys always seem to want to help others enjoy your sport and don't mind breakin Ballz for some fun too.:D

If you are planning trips where you anchor up or drift with bait, the top of the incoming is a good time to be there. especially around the full moon in may, june, and october. Sometimes when drifting, it's the entire outgoing that works...Also the bottom of the tide. BUT I've caught them at all tides, and go when i have time.
When chasing bunker the tide doesn't seem t matter!

Good advice :D Seems LIke I favor outgoing shallow water early in the spring as the temps go up I move deeper according to my log I'm still fishing shallow for the next few weeks;)

Why not ask a hard question??? :) :)
Truth is, every spot is different. in the spring in the back, og is better generally because the warm water from the shallow depths is flowing, wheras on the inc the cold ocean water floods the bay.
