I dropped the boat in around 3pm to work the kinks out from it's winter slumber. With the boat running fine, I zipped around to a few of the known hot spots on the flats. Only a dozen or so boats on the water. Water clarity was great, temps in the upper 50's. Looked like perfect conditions. I fished for 2 hours without a bite. Glassed all the boats and didn't see one fish caught. Scratched my head and headed back to the dock. Hoping for better luck this weekend. I was throwing albino bass assassins and storm lures in about 10' of water along the drop offs. I wonder if the 30 degree frost conditions last night slowed them down today? Maybe the bait slingers had better luck. I'll be taking herring on Saturday.

Scooter,
Go north young man! Say, somewhere between the I95 bridge and Lapidum landing. Get some fresh herring, find 25-30 feet of water, and wait.

I think there's just way too much fresh food right now for the big girls to even look at fake stuff...

I'll take your advice. I've never been up the river past the 95 bridge. I have a new chartplotter on the boat, so I'll check it out. I learned the flats by tossing plastic. We got into the schoolies several trips. Some 30 fish/person days. We also had a blast at first light with poppers on a few cows. I haven't fished bait for the big girls. Circle Hooks and anchor up, right? I can play that game...

8/0 -9/0 circle hook with a 3' leader, use a fish finder rig.watch there are some rocks up farther in the river. Tip use whole herring there is so much bait in the river we didn't have no luck with chunks the last time. all fish came on whole dead herring. Good luckI may be out there 17' maycraft. I'll br out tomorrow and give a report

Don't feel bad, there were 6 of us down today in 3 boats, we managed to go 3 fish for 7 run offs from 7 am to 3 pm on herring. We fished out of Havre de Grace from right under the railroad bridge to about a mile south. Water actually got cooler during the day, started off at 58 droped to 53 around lunch back to 56 when we left. I am guess it had to do with water releases.

Question for anybody how knows, how far above the bridges are you allowed to target the bass? I know at some point above between there and the dam it becomes off limits but not sure where.

John: I see you have a maycraft. I bought mine in 06. Love it. I have the 21CC. Well she's 20'6"....but feels 23' with trim tabs.. I've had her out to Massey's Canyon and in 12 inches of water on the flats. Great versatile boat... I'll be on Channel 68 Saturday... "Don't Weight Up" is my boats name. Good luck.

Harry said it right, tuff on artificials now. The only guys bangin em now are the bait guys, with a few exceptions. My son was out a couple days ago and got 6 none under 20 lbs. on meat. I also agree, from the bridges to the line at Lapidium seems to be where most of the activity has been.
