I have a 2001 15 HP Evinrude I was running today in the river when I hit a rock. Engine stalled out, now I can not get the flywheel to turn. Prop will not turn either. Any thoughts on what I just did?

sounds like the lower unit is locked up in gear, what ever it is good luck, cause I doubt it's good:(

Can you move the prop a little each way? Normally there is an inch or so of play in the prop movement with the engine in gear. If the prop is frozen in position, I'd think the lower unit has some serious damage and is locked up preventing the motor from turning. If the prop has the free play and the engine won't budge, then it's probably engine trouble.

I have done the same thing before and all I had to do was replace the cotter pin inside the prop and it started up fine after that. There is a pin inside that probably broke and all you have to do is replace it.

I did the same thing with a Johnson 150 once. the lower unit shaft was bent bad and a few other things were messed up as well. It was not a cheap repair.

Move this to the Tackle Box. I'm sure some of the sponsors will answer.

It took me 4 broken cotter pins to break down and buy an $80 rock guard. Well worth the investment

Any thoughts on what I just did? I had a 9.9 johnson on a 14 ft. alum. boat hit a cement block somebodies anchor and broke the shaft that runs down to the lower unit. all else was fine even the prop.
