Well my luck switched on me, we didn't even have a run off. Nice day just no fish. Couldn't find any fresh herring, which is key so I knew it was going to be tough from the get go. Caught a ton of perch tryed to live line but no luck. We saw one guy hook up that was live lining herring but they lost it in the anchor line:eek: Only fish I seen hooked. Seemed like a tough day for everybody. Just got word that the fish are starting to spawn buddy saw them doing there thing in the bohemia river. Few more weeks then they will be out of here. Go gettem.
What happend to Ele's post?? Its good to have some local knowledge on here for the flats and reports.

When the fish are on the spawn how long is it typically before you get into a good bite again?

It depends but probably not for a week for two. Depending on the weather it will get good right before it closes again.

I know at least in regards to LMB in freshwater, once those fat females are spawned out and they lay their eggs, it is VERY difficult fishing for them afterwards for quite sometime as they go deep. Seems in regard to stripers that even the spawned out females (the big breeders) are still very catchable post-spawn and after laying their eggs. Anyone have different experience(s)?
There may be some spawning going on as you said, but they do not all spawn at one time. Some spawn in lower water temperatures than the majority. They are usually around until the middle of May and sometimes longer.
It is difficult to get them to bite when they are actively spawning though.
John, I guess they didn't like my reports so they were eliminated.

You need to be a paid advertiser to advertise your bussiness. This is only to be fair to all that pay.

They were reports she wasn't advertising IMO. I didn't see her say charter my son Mike it was just a report on how he did. Not trying to ruffle any feathers but a report is a report in my book. Captain or not captain
John, that's the way I saw it too.

Fished on Friday and got a nice fish, 41 inches on a rattletrap type lure. We coverered quite a large area and didn't see any bent rods. One area was full of rolling carp, but in the area where my fish hit I would see a large swirl every once in a while that was different from a carp roll. My theory is that the male stripers were crowding the females and once in a while you would catch the action. I missed a few strikes that were half hearted but with the sensitivity of braid you could tell the fish tried. If it picks up I'll be back down.
