View Full Version : FLW Striper Series-Sign Up Early!

Genmar Drew

Everyone who is planning to fish the FLW Striper Series in Atlantic Highlands on May 31 should sign up ASAP. As of yesterday there were 15 teams signed up. In the past the FLW has had to cancel due to lack of entries.

It's a great, conservation-oriented, family-friendly event, and you cannot beat the prize money. $10,000 guaranteed first prize. If you are fishing from an approved Genmar boat brand with Yamaha or BRP power your first prize could be $30,000. Not bad for one day of fishing.

Oh really....Look at Fortesque! I had guys driving down from RI and MA and we called the marina to secure a slip and they said, OH?! Didn't you hear?
Hear What?...Oh, they cancelled the event due to POOR Turnout!..

Nothing in the rules about cancelling due to poor turnout but they did! Never made a call, never made a post on the FLW website...what a joke of an operation!....Roll the trailer into town, poor payouts...15 teams huh? I heard there was close to 30 and they pulled the plug in Fortesque...

I am sure all the $$ Sponsors were pleased....we'll see where this goes.

First of all I want to make it clear that I do not work for the FLW. I work for Genmar Boats-Specifically Wellcraft, Hydra-Sports, and Seaswirl. We are one of the biggest $$$ sponsors.

I had nothing to do with the cancellation in Fortescue, and to tell you the truth I think it could have been handled better but that was an FLW call, not my call.

What I can tell you with 100% accuracy is that each week I recieve a list of the boats registered in upcoming FLW tournaments. When the Fortescue tournament was cancelled 9 boats were registered to fish. While I heard that many more teams had planned to fish NONE of them had yet put up the money or turned in their entry form. So, how is the FLW supposed to know that they are planning to fish?

The FLW cannot make the financial committment of coming all the way to the Northeast with so few boats registered. That is why I am urging everyone to sign up now.

Drew

Then why do the have a registration at the captains meeting:eek: ?

If they need to know how many boats, It should be pre registration ONLY.

You make a good point Undisputed, but like I said, I don't work for the FLW and cannot speak for them.

What I can say is that the FLW puts on a great event, and I am proud to be a part of it. There was some mention earlier in this thread about lousy payouts but where else can you get $30,000 for a one-day Striper tournament? The payouts after 1st place are based on the number of boats in the field. The more boats we can get to fish the tournament, the better the payouts will be.

Well the way they handled the Fortescue tourney was pretty bad to say the least. Hopefully they won't do that again.

Also if you work for Genmar you are pretty close to the FLW in that they are run by the same organization under the control of Irwin Jacob. and thus the reason that Wellcraft, Sea Swirl, Ranger Boats and any other Genmar product is a major sponsor.

As Joe said if the FLW is worried about participation make it mandatory to pre-register.

Captain Brian, you are correct. Both the FLW and Wellcraft/Hydra-Sports/Seaswirl, are owned by the same parent company but we are very different businesses.

I own both a Hydra Sport and a Yamaha and was planning to fish this tourament out of Fortesque and was not happy with the way it was cancelled
and notify of the same . I would be hard press to enter another one by the FLW

Going to Sign up right after this:

Just wanted to show some support for this tournament. We have fished almost all of these tournaments so far and like I have said before it is extremely well run tournament, the money is excellent, the anlgers and staff are great, it is a great day and this tournament could become something really big with our support.

About Fortescue- someone definately dropped the ball there and we all know that. We tried to pre-register but the site would not let us and furthermore the site was never updated. We packed up, trailored down, got a hotel, pre-fished for three days, just to find out the day of registration that it was cancelled. I was a little angry but at least I was fishing and in some waters I had never seen before. Poeple make mistakes. The tournament is still fairly new and of course it still needs some aspects worked out.
It really is a great tournament and great day of fishing, Hope to see you all there

Thanks for the support Lucky Stripes. If any of you ever have a problem trying to register for these tournaments online you can always call the FLW. If you still need assistance you can call me at the Wellcraft/Hydra-Sports office and I will be glad to help you out:
