View Full Version : Bass In Every Direction!!!!
Headed out Barnegat inlet with my Dad and my buddy "John the tree killer" at 5am to a flat ocean. It did not take long before we banged our first bass. There were not many boats in the area but it was nice to fish around a group of boats that had repect for each other and knew how to work the pods:) When that happens the bite can last all day long. We had a great begining to our day but it would end with one of the biggest JO's Ive ever seen:mad: I'll explain in my next post.
Here are a couple of bass from our day.
Me with my biggest of the day.

Unfortunately my Dad had one snap his line and he did not have another opportunity to cash in.
Here is john with another bass.

Nice Fish:cool:
This is how the day ended for us.
We were going to call it a day when I decided to check the pocket of the north jetty. I found a pod without a soul on it or anywhere near it. I set up on the pod and My first snag got me a 20lb bass, the smallest of the day but I wasnt complaing...this was a bonus. Went back up made another drift and caught another bass. Then we circle around and get a double header, me and John. I knew this pod was loaded with bass and was ready to pin in up against the jetty. By the time we were done fighting our 2 Bass about 18 boats saw us and moved in...
The funny thing was they were patient and were circling and drifting through the pod so everthing was cool. Our next drift I hook a bass and its burning line and goes under a Parker:eek: . I asked the crew on the boat if he could back up a little and he said no problem. Little did I know my bass got tangled up in all of their lines. They pulled their lines out of the water and cut them which allowed me a chance to land my bass, and I did...It was 35lbs:) I just want to thank those guys , showed me alot of class. I owe you 2 weighted trebles and 2 live bunker:)
What happened next had me ready to blow my top:mad:
A goffball in a 27' Aqua colored CC SeaCraft with twin outboards(the boat looked brand new) Started cutting through the middle of the pod of bunker ,backing down to try and stay in the pod, doing figure eights. I couldnt believe it . A couple times he took off out of the pod wide open:confused: Everyone was looking at him like they wanted to strangle him....me included:mad: I never bit my tongue so hard, he managed to shut the bite down all by himself . What a JO! If you were there you know what I mean.
But other than that one yahoo, it was a great day out on the water. Its good to see boaters working the pods together out there.
Here is a pick of our double header. Notice no boats and The lighthouse between Johns right arm.

Awesome day! I saw the pics and the thresher story and giggled. I was in the skiff and I think it was you I crossed paths with a couple times. It's amazing how good it can be, and can stay when guys don't get crazy. Although I did have a sportfisher yelling at me from a long distance away, telling me I was gonna run his lines over. I told him to buy a smaller boat.
I also had 2 old guys trolling Bunker run my lines over.(Now they were close) Only 2 encounters. I consider that a great day.
I can't wait till my days off again.
Sounds like a great day, Sam.
Bait, Bass, and the near absence of idiots coupled with beautiful weather, these are a few of my favorite things....:)

Sammy- great day for you guys and super report!
I was a little closer to the inlet then your a.m. spot but we managed OK. We got 2 large bass around 40lbs each. I am amazed at how many yahoos are out there.
My biggest pet peeve is why do people- when they are done fishing or going to another spot- run right up the beach at full throttle. All they need to do is motor out from the beach and then when they get out of the "lane" open it up? I even saw the tow boat guy- who was fishing as well- run right through the pods paralell to the beach. It just doesn't make sense to me!
Anyway- glad you got on em. Be good!

I hate you!!!! just kidding...great day!!!!
Thanks again
I hit the surf after work for 5 hours and all i can say is stay in the boat. Its rough watching boats catch fish. Giant group of boats at Bay head.

Trollers arent even fishing in my opinion. To me its something you do to locate fish, fishing is what you do from that point on. Bunker show you were the bass are, makes sense in the fall, not now. Cant tell you how many times trollers shut bites down for me. Good talkin to ya out there.
Tommy
I hope you can keep Ron awake so you can crush them today.:)

It was monday. And we did end up getting 2 blues and getting bit off by 2 others. But we actually had 4 backup rods that kept us fishing.
teamz
I actually couldnt believe it. Like I said, class act on their part.
I cant believe blues did not chomp up the bunker that was all tangled in my line:eek: If they did , I would have assumed a blue was on my hook.

Went out yesterday on the searcher. Unfortunately my persuasive powers came up short and we rode past a large fleet set up just north of the inlet and took an hour ride for bluefish only. Think we caught 170 plus. Needless to say did alot of cleaning and smoking and frying today.
Heading out tomorrow, try to bang them before the front moves in.
Well you did what you set out to do. Hope you had a great time.
