left Manasquan 6 pm last night after reading about the blitz and deciding to go.

Stopped in a small fleet off SeaGirt / Spring Lake. 7-8 boats all snagging but didnt see any bent rods so we decided to run north to the 40 lb plus fish we heard about from two different folks off Asbury.

1/4 mile into our run we ran across a small pod and looped back. Fish on within 20 seconds of snagging bunker. We ended up landing 3 Stripers between 43-44 inches - big and fat. Broke one off on 12 lb line and lost one at the boat. Two bluefish also.

Each time we tried in a small fleet we caught zip, but each time we stopped on a small pod away from the jockeying boats we had fish on quickly. Any pod that had fish on them seemed to bite immediately. We also saw two very large fish crash bunkers right behind the boat. Bunkers pods were north of Squan.

Late report, we missed the great bite Fri and Sun but Sat we had one fish on the slow pick Shrewsbury Rocks drifting live bunker. Tons of fish out there - hope it lasts. Stayed out to 930 as the T storms didn't make it to the Southern Monmouth County Area until later on.. nice night on the water.

forgot to say this but we released 4 of the five fish on the trips. We'd rather keep a 10 lb Sandy Hook clam fish for the table than the bigger breeding fish...... they just don't seem to freeze real well for a long time and a nice fresh smaller fish tastes better anyway..... we snapped pics and are usually happy knowing we let them go to fight again ...

Nice! We have been fishing by ourselves as much as possible. If the fish are on one pod, there is a good chance they"ll be on another.

Nice report Dave. Will be up that way later today. I agree on keeping the smaller fish for the table too!
