What I liked was they were only allowed to carry 20 or so anglers if I remember correctly so it wasnt too bad with line tangles.
Remember one time I had a nice bass on and mate (Skip?) was just a half second away from netting it.Fish looked at me,flared his gills and spit the hook! Almost seemed like it happened in slow motion! He don't know how close he came to being on the dinner table.
Donnie was something else, wasn't scared to make a run in that little boat, remember jigging for bass up near Sea Isle in some very cold weather.
Did Donnie run any other boats around here-Fiesta maybe?

I sure do! And the new Miss Chris!

Wonderful memories.

When I lived in Bayshore West, so long ago, I used to live only a couple houses away from the Miss Chris captain and also a couple houses from Axleton...... the late A & J. The Miss Chris capt lived across the street for Axleton.
I remember the beautiful landscaped yard of Axleton. It inspired me to do the same with my yard. The Russels, also good friends lived across from the Axletons and the captn Chris. Four people living at the intersection of Old Mill Drive and I don't remember what the other street was!

Such wonderful memories for me!! The water then was so fertile, every party boat had so many fish. If you had a rowboat, you could go 500' from the shore and catch so many flounder and weaks that the boat would almost sink!!

I remember long ago, the Miss Chris would go only a couple miles offshore to the wrecks. Everyone on the boat would tie a burlap bag to the rail and usually fill it up with porgies and sea bass.

As a kid, I still remember when the first mate would bring cut surf clams in a paper pouch........ almost like Mc Donalds has for fries, and I had a two hook setup with a 4oz. sinker. My dad would show me how to put the clam on the hook.

As soon as my sinker hit the bottom, a porgie...... or two would grab the clam and I would reel the fish in. Every cast, I would be so tired of reeling fish in...... I used to think the ocean was a Blessed Place that could feed the world.

I think the Miss Chris was $5 for a full day trip back then.

The wonderful bounty of the sea is what I experienced back then. Who would ever think it would become what it is now?

I went on the Miss Chris a couple times, but I had my own boat then so I didn't use the party boats.

Every time I go to Cape May now, I always check out Miss Chris and all the party boats.

Also I go to the Lobster House and get a softshell crab lunch and sit on the dock and remember the great life I had when I lived in Cape May.

Capt Don was the Striper King back in the day!!
I caught hundreds of Stripers and Fluke on that boat,Skip used to skip school to go to the Rips,Don taught us well the art of fishing the Cape May rips
I miss that old boat,One time we had the wind and tide pushing us and I think we saw 12 knots,I was in the wheelhouse and Don joked about needing seatbelts:D :D
I think we need to grab Donnie and take a road trip to fish on her;) :D

Neat, Nice to see she is still on the water. Just doesn't seem right with a different name and no Capt. Don, He really knew how to get fish on that boat. (He had to know as it was not one of the speedsters in the fleet) He was able to put anglers on the fish and had a greal following.

I mated on that boat for a few years, late 80's. That boat caught more flounders than any boat I ever worked on. In the fall, I would work weekends with only old sharpies on the boat. Some of those boys could really catch fish. We would start fishing and I would have to start filleting by noon, otherwise I would have never been able to get them all done on the ride home. A GREAT boat.

I was thinking the same thing. I was down in Wildwood this past weekend with the girl friend and we went to to Cape may to do some shopping. Where is the Miss Capemay, Porgy, fiesta ???

I caught my first keeper Striper on Miss capemay on a fluke rod. That slot fish kick my A$$.:D I remember one of the Old salts saying "stop playing around and reel that fish in, but I was reeling for real.:D Green as Green horn when I started fishing for Stripers on Miss C. Had the best day ever striper fishing on that boat using clams, the bite was unreal. It was like blue fishing. As fast you could reel in and cast out you had another fish on. Great memories...I was going to try pursuade the girl friend let me go fishing and she go shopping.:D

Caught my 1st keeper on her back in December '93 -- dead sticking a 2 oz.red and white undressed bucktail as we were going over a rip - the rip action was all that was needed for the right action/movement of the bucktail- I'll never forget Don yelling at me to NOT deadstick it - then bamm- i catch a short(27")--then he tells everyone else on board I was damn lucky -- went over the same rip next drift -- I did the same -- and WHAM - MY 1st keeper ever (33")!!! Never forget that day or his face when HE netted my Keeper !! :) :)

Hi Skip

Those were the days. I caught my first striper on that boat and you helped me. I didn't know what I was doing but I tried to do what you did. Caught four but you caught five and beat me. Not bad for my first time. Then you got your own boat.

I spent many days with Don, Dennis and Jay. I don't know if I had more fun fishing or hanging out in the wheel house. I am glad you got Don out.

Are you still running open boat trips? I am going to be down the 16th - the 23rd. I don't want to go all the way out for tuna but if your flounder fishing I would go. I will try to email you.
