Don't listen to the dopes that say no spots. There is a deep hole right behind about 63rd street.(behind the playground) close to the bank. I have not really fished there, but always thought there would be stripers there in the fall. I'm not sure where you are located, but I could give you another spot where I get them throughout summer into July.

I would try all the feeder creeks that feed the main channel usally there are bass lined up waiting for out going tide with their mouths open. been to many places in the back water that produce some nice striper. Some good ones are bye the bridges at night just beyond the light line on the waters. good luck:D

Just about every creek and thoroghfare has deep hole in them...at least to 9-10 feet....

You can see them by the water surface when the tide is really running...it just looks a bit different....

Without a fish finder...just put a sinker on a crab line and you'll find them as you paddle along...and look for the current changes....

Chart would be your best bet- as long as you know how to read them. Also, giving away spots IS a No No, but you can read around for clues! :p

No spots is the way it has been since day one but there was a lot more how talk versus when and where. Everyone now asks when and where when the real question should always be how?

i don't care if they are "honey holes" or not. I simply asked where it gets deep.

i always thought of striper fishing as an ocean/inlet fall type fishing. this is my first season saltwater fishing and i know totally nothing about striper fishing- are they very sought after in the backbays? what are techniques back there?

Seen to much time and energy wasted on deep holes in the back bays. I believe that many of these holes especially the ones that stay at a constant depth from year to year are caused by underground fresh water springs. If they are then they won't promote any attraction for bait and baitfish. Not attracting them will result in not attracting stripers.

Some of these holes are also created by a whirlpool effect in the currents. My experience is that this type of water action tends to suck in weeds and dead strawgrass. I've never been able to fish a deep hole and keep my bait or line free of the junk. In the back where there is constant change there has to be a reason for deep holes to remain the same. Springs and whirlpools are the two most logical reasons for this constant depth.

I stay out of the deep holes but will concentrate on the edges. Any change in bottom formation will attract fish. Even if the hole isn't where fish want to congregate the edges will still attract attention. You can easily find most of the deep holes on quiet windless mornings by just watching the waters surface. There will almost always be a difference in what the surface water looks like over the deep holes. Look for slow whirlpool action on the surface. May not look like much but if you spend a minute or two looking and see weeds or strawgrass slowly going in a large circle you can figure on a deep hole. If you notice a large roundish flat area of water this will usually signal a deep hole that causes the water to lightly boil towards the surface.

There are thousands of holes throughout the South Jersey back bays. Fishing them isn't the secret. Fishing near them is.

Why is it that I post 24 hours ago on an active thread and it dies? Is it my breath? Figured it would go a little crazy about spot burning.

Your words of wisdom, always appreciated take some time to be absorbed. I knew about holes existing but never wonder why. Never connected that deep hole by Jarvis sound with Cold "SPRINGS" inlet. Never caught or marked fish in it. Once again always appreciate your wealth of knowledge.
