Gr8ful Fish

Johnny and I jumped on my "Bertha" on Sunday late morning with the intent to head offshore to ply some wrecks for ling/sea bass/tog. Unfortunately, when I got to my boat I discovered that both batteries were dead due to my anchor light being accidentally turned on & left on when I had my racor filter replaced last week. :(
Luckily, I was able to borrow a battery charger from the marina, and we got her up and running by about 10:00. Since it was late, and we were only going to fish till about 3:30 PM, we decided to go fluking instead.
Fluked in Ambrose Channel, Chapel Hill Channel and in the Swash channel near Romer Shoal for 6 keepers. Johnny had 2 while I had 4 including the largest at just over 4 lbs. All of our fish were caught on squid strips or whole squids. Interestingly, one of the fluke I caught actually coughed up a baby lobster it had recently eaten when I brought it on board to unhook it.
However, Johnny managed to land what was definitely the most unusual catch I have ever seen when he managed to reel in a pair of black filthy underwear that he snagged. You know it is a rough day of fishing when you pull in a pair of dirty, old tighty whities. :D
The water clarity was extremely poor with tons of trash and debris that must have washed in during the recent hard rains and high tides. As if the skivies Johnny hung weren't bad enough, we also saw 2 different "Coney Island whitefish" floating out there among the bottles, bags, wood and other miscellaneous trash. EEEWWWW !!! :(
Surface temps were ~75 degrees. Winds were light throughout the day, but the near full moon had the tides ripping.
Heard from some friends that there was some pretty heavy enforcement going on in the bay yesterday that included at least one undercover unit that was boarding boats in the bay along with at least 7 CO's were at the AH public dock. Apparently, they had several buckets filled with undersized fluke that they had confiscated throughout the day. :(
