I'm in.....have a lot of control over my work schedule this fall so I'll have a lot of two to three day stretches off.

And definitely night.......unless there's a calm day and someone wants to take me out front.

How about location? I fish Great Bay alot, so that would be my first choice. I know of a couple places that are great for kayaks.

I also would be interested, early eve into night time is best for me. As for when-- wkends are best. As I'm a northerner,,region? would be a factor. Cape May area would be a little rough,,around Atlantic City would be easier, would be fun to have our own little yak tourney, hope we get this going.

I'm in. I say a little BBQ with it. If it's my neck of the woods, I can make up maps for guys. Corsons area? The pier @ Delores cooper? That has great access and the water back there can be VERY good.
First weekend of OCT looks like a safe bet. Have a central meeting place, some food, then fish.
Vince, Where you been hiding? I tried to ring you, about a montauk run.

The area back around Beaslys bridges might be the best for a couple reasons;
1-There are 4 diffrent bridges to fish all within a mile of each other.
2-There is plenty of parking and a boat ramp at the Tuckahoe inn. There is a nice sandy beach there to grill some dogs and have a campfire (if allowed).
3-Its pretty mellow there so those with less experience wont have the waves and tides to deal with near an inlet. Also ver little boat traffic.
4-Its just off the parkway and easy to find.
5-Maybe we can even get there early and do a beach cleanup and get some press.
Im thinking start around 3 pm and meet over a few dogs. Do some daylight fishing and then fish the bridges until 11pm or midnight.
Does anyone know who owns that property? Im worried that if its state park that beers would be illegal. Or we could just haul everything over to drag island and no body would bother us.

Barrell, it sounds like you've given this some thought and came up with a great suggestion. I've launched over by Drag Island once, and my brother's launched there a few times. It seems like nice water back there.

Are there any lights by the beach/launch? Early October would be a great time too. If anyone else thinks it's a good area, chime in and we can iron out the details.

On a side note, I'm probably going to be working Friday nights for the next few months. I'd probably get done work by 8am, drive down the shore and zonk out for a few hours in the van. Just wake me up when the burgers are done:).

I believe that area is maintained by Upper Twp. I don't think you will have any problem. It was a big party spot back in my high school days and all the fuzz would do is break it up. Never a problem as long as you clean up. The beach clean up is a good idea, also. I grew up fishing that area and it is a real fun area to fish this time of year. A solid oppurtunity to catch a slam around there. Blue, bass, weakys, and fluke are all still around:rolleyes: PS The cops won't bother you back there too much, they only broke us up for obvious reasons. Should't say much to a bunch of guys fishing and being responsible.

While it is a great location to launch/eat, I don't think its the best for fishing. You'd be relying heavily on a couple bridges and a couple shadow lines. Don't get me wrong I've caught more than my share there, but some better waters are close to that. That place can be extremely hit or miss.

Count me in as well - as long as it's not a Sunday. I'd be up for Ocean City area or behind Brigantine. But basically I could meet up whereever.

I have no problem showing everyone a very good yak area. It can easily handle a bunch of guys. It's probably my fav area to yak, and when I need a keeper in the fall, it's my "go to" place, I do especially well on the troll. There is a bridge nearby, plenty of feeder creeks, and a shallow bay. All within a 20 minute paddle:thumbsup:

First weekend in OCT seems to be what everyone is thinking. Weather doesn't look too good. Still a week away though so the forecast is pretty much meaningless right now. I personally don't mind the rain, as long as I'm not taking a beating the whole time out there. Still getting a feel for what I'm capable of going out in in the yak.

On another note, that weekend might be bad for me even though I'll be down the shore. Getting married tomorrow and spending the week down the shore so going fishing might be a bad move, but we'll see.

What are you talking about? It's perfect timing. You have to lay the law down early in the marraige. Let's practice. "Honey, I'm going fishing and that's final!". :) Just kidding, congrats. Hope you can make it.

Eelball, would you want to take the lead on this? If not, I'll step up. It looks like next weekend is the date. We just have to decide where we're gonna launch.

Barrell, what's the bridges like behind AC? Would it be a good spot to launch a few yaks?

Some launch locations I can think of are:

1. Circle at Somers Point. It has access to a few bridges as well as some sods.

2. Corsons. Can't really fish the bridge since there are alot of lines coming from above. Current flies thru there too.

3. Tuckahoe Inn area. I'm totally unfamilar with this area.

If there's any other area you can think of, chime in. We only have a week left.

How about under the Delores Cooper bridge on the Longport causeway. There's a parking lot that can handle it. A nice beach to launch. I know theres plenty of good fishing in the area;). Its one of my fav spots to yak for fall bass, but I'll let you guys play there. I've done very good at night trolling plugs thru the ICW, and working the Numerous creek mouths and deep cut sod.
Only down fall. The pier is known for....uh...Its the queer pier!!:o
Nobody's ever bothered me. Just flash a fillet knife and talk to yourself loud.

eelball, I'm interested for that spot... though I can't make first weekend in Oct.

started exploring there on foot in early summer but haven't made it back (or on the yak all season) due to mucho mucho craziness, but fly ty r and now you have both extolled the yakkin' virtues of that area :)

let's see what the consensus is, beasley or oc and what mr. barrell says.

AC has very little parking and the beach is broken glass and broken cinder blocks. The fishing there has also been dead.

Tuckahoe Inn seems to have the most parking and the nicest beach with a lot of habitat to fish. Ill be yak fishing in NC the first week of October. I think no matter what dates get picked it will interefere with somebodys schedule . Eelball has a spot in mind, If its the queer pier I dont know the back waters there that well but the currents are pretty mellow if you stay out of the inlet area. In the inlet it can get pretty hairy if there is a big swell and the tide is ripping. But there are some biguns under the toll bridge. We would realy need to keep an eye on each other if conditions are rough.

I changed my mind on the venue and would really like to try the D Cooper Bridge area. I did a Google Earth view of the area and it looks good. Would 3pm be a good meeting time for everyone? Post if you're in or not and if the D Cooper is ok with you.

where's the D Cooper Bridge. I might be able to make it.

It's right outside of Somer's Point between Somer's Point and Longport. If you were in Somer's Point at the circle, follow the circle to Shore Rd. Follow Shore Rd to the Wawa and make a right. Just follow that road until you hit a tall bridge....that's it. The parking lot entrance is to the right before you go over the bridge.

If you need better directions, let me know.

I'm too ADHD to be coherent, but I'll try.:)

Place: Launching under the Delores Cooper bridge between Somers Point and Longport. To see exactly where it's at, fire up mapquest and put in Somers Point. Zoom in until you can see the street names. Look for Maryland ave and that turns into Lonport Somers Point Blvd. Follow LSP Blvd until you see the parking lot before the high bridge. That's where we'll be launching.

Time/Date: Saturday, Oct 4th. We never really picked out a specific time. There was talk of meeting late afternoon and fishing into the evening. Just show up whenever and if you see another yakker it will most likely be a Barner.

I'm pretty sure I can make it. I probably won't get there until 5pm or so. There's a slight chance that I might get called into work, which would suck bigtime. I'll be driving a blue Dodge Caravan with a Barn sticker on the back.

Who ended up making it?

I showed up about 6pm and it was low tide. Unloaded the yak and brought all my stuff down to the water's edge. Ran into a problem. Since the water was so low, there was a huge mud flat between hard sand and the water. I started walking thru the mud, but I was sinking in past my ankles and feared it would be deeper. I'm guessing this is a spot where you can't launch at dead low tide.

Ended up loading up and moving over to the Circle. I should have called home to have my wife update this post stating where I was incase anyone else had the same problem.

I'll post how I did in the reports thread.

LOL.. I say we all meet Friday, January 9th along Ballast point (mission bay, San Diego, CA) and slam the hell out of the scorpionfish and bass, then do a drift past the san diego river mouth w/ live croakers, trying to pick up a couple halibut over 20 lbs, ending the whole thing w/ a raging bonfire in the firepits on shore... o wait.. might be a bit of a drive-LMAO.. ah well, would love to go yakkin w/ all y'all back there in any case.. would be a great time, i'm sure.. seems like I miss out at times.. lol

I think we should schedule it for a time when we could yak without cold water gear(drysuit). It seems like most of us, me included, don't have gear for the cold water. I'm guessing that once the water temps hit the high fiftys, it should be fine.

Any idea when the backbays temps warm up to the fiftys?
