Blynch,, You have alot of homework to do,,You live (by your tag) in an area that has a few retailers and I have seen one that has specials going on,don't know how special,, that said I would do on-line search of yaks, visit those local shops, get best prices for 3, take home brochures.Day dream of being towed by a cow then call the (I believe) 2 sponsers here on the board and get a better deal.Worked for me. There are many yaks out there and I would suggest doing the work getting it right on your first try.If you find 3 you want post them to hear the pros and cons.Good Luck

Jersey Paddler is a place I hinted at to look at yaks,they won't budge a penny, the dude that knows the most hasn't taken a bath in a month! I only use that place as a resource to check out specific products. The checkout girls are cute --the sales staff are pompous asses -- the real work guys in small shack are top notch. If you wear high end outdoor designer clothes, drive a cadilac escalade as your fishing/outdoors/dog SUV you'll feel right at home.This is my experience over several years when they were the only yak store in this region.Fact is when they first opened they were fantastic and the owner worked there now they suck and the owner is off playing with his money. The fellows that sell yaks on the barn will help you way beyond what you'll ever get there.
So I give them :thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown: Jersey Paddler:thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown:
don't you love opinons:D:razz:

Definitely talk to Barrell,
I spoke with him the other day and he was very helpfull and informative with everything. I live in HIlton Head now or else I would have done business with him. He has some phenominal deals going to on his product.
I just recently ordered in a hobie outback and sport for me and my wife. They are paddle driven and look to be great boats. I am very excited to get into this sport and this end of fishing. We have some great kayak fishing here on the island with the redtail or redfish they call em. I cant wait, they are do in at the end of september!

Interesting, my experience and many of the folks that I yak with has been completely different. I've purchased 3 yaks (last purchase 2006) from them and each and every time they've made package pricing attractive. When I purchased my 2 Ocean Kayaks, nobody in the area could touch their advertised package price and then they made it slightly better because I was buying 2 at once.
Having said this, I believe Belhaven Canoe and Kayak prices are slightly better, have the largest selection of pre-owned that I've seen and I like their paddle area which is where I purchased my newest 2 yaks, but Belhaven is not close to the poster.
In recent experiences (with my 2 new models), with the exception of blow-out or end of season pricing all the shop prices seem very close.
As I stated in my last post, talk to Barrell - he is a great resource, but since he never carried what I wanted I never actually purchased from the store.

Bellhaven used to be a Hobie dealer but they lost their dealership.

Personally, I would have to disagree on your feeling about the Jersey Paddler. I would definitely take my business to a sponsor however, before I joined this summer, I had two buying experiences from the Jersey Paddler. I thought the service was great and not one person I went to could beat there prices.

In response to my lambasting of The Jersey Paddler, it was an opinon that was harsh and just my (and others) experience. We've all have had good/bad experiences with car dealerships/restaurants etc and when they were the only game in town I have purchased 2 yaks and 1 canoe from them along with accessories. The outside support guys are great,check-out gals cute(who cares, they just take your money) sales guys I never had a good experience with,, just that simple. I'm an extremely easy likable:) person to get along with and just don't appreciate the attitude the sales guys have presented to me past and present, maybe I smell
bad:(. They aren't going out of business because of me,they just need to clean up their act, so in closing try them maybe you'll love them.
