Here is a short run down on Jacob from his parents.
Hey Russ first of all thanks for offering to do this, Aimee myself and Jacob really appreciate it.
For everyone that doesn't know me or my sons history i will try to give you a brief history, at 3 1/2 months of age Jacob was diagnosed with Epilepsy "Seizure Disorder" as Jacob got older it became aparent that his seizures were going to be very hard to keep under control with traditional medicine, so we began to look in to other options that were available, Jacob while under the supervision of the Neurology team at CHOP went on the Ketogenic diet which is a diet that consists mostly of Fat very little Protien and Carbs, Jacob did very well on this diet his seizures became less frequent and much less severe, however because of what the diet consist of he could not remain on the diet for very long, infact 2 years ago Jacob was hospitalized for almost 2 months for liver failure, not knowing what the exact cause of the liver failure was the doctors immediately stopped the Ketogenic diet and all of the Medications that Jacob was on, at this point in his live Jacob has no other Medications available to him because they are all metabolized through the Liver and with the recent liver failure the Docs, Aimee and myself are not willing to take that risk, so for right now we are standing pat with the couple meds that he is on that dont metabolize through the liver, when we are forced to do something else our next step is to have a VNS inserted into Jacobs chest, a VNS is basically a pacemaker for the Brain when it detects a seisure coming on it stimulates the Vegal Nerve and attempts to stop it, however the success rate with th VNS is not very good so we are holding off as long as possible.
Approximately 4 years ago we set up the Jacob Egolf benefit fund and had a BEEF and BEER to help raise money for Jacobs future medical needs at that time with the help of many people from the Bass Barn we were able to raise $17.000 for Jacob, unfortunately we are at the point where that money is about to run out, Jacob has been getting all of his services that he is entitled to through early intervention and the school system, but they are not enough to get Jacob where he needs to be, so we have been using all of the money we raised 4 years ago to pay for aditional services and Therapies and we would like to be able to continue to do so because they are helping him tremendously, but they are very expensive and that is why when talking to Russ he decided to do these auctions for my son Jacob.
Thanks to Russ and everyone who donates their time and money to help Jacob.
Aimee and Jim Egolf
Irregardless of what you do, please keep the Egolfs in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you,
Russ
