I guess if you are heading down to the amazing public ramps in the Elk Neck state park you will most likely (unless you are dropping in by helicopter) be travelling down Main Street in North East ... I work up the road at a local College and spend many afternoons in NE for lunch or other refreshment after work.
If you ever need good recommendations for food, email me, I guess that is not allowed here,,, but I will tell you that North East has some amazingly friendly folks who are longtime residents and want to give you a hand.
Nice new forum, I have the top of the bay covered!! woolst

A lot of us make it in and through the town every spring when the bass (rockfish to you, no doubt) are on the flats. I'm an occasional area fisherman and also look forward to this forum.

If you come down in the spring you want to stop in herb bait shop and say hello to ele. And if you are lucky capt. mike who is her son and one of the better guides in the upper bay can give you tips on where the bite is .

Herb's is almost a manatory stop each spring at least once,it's like stepping back in time, you just have to feel better about life just walking though the door,it's a true mom and pop store..and anybody looking or wishing to live the simple life I've got a nice house on a 1/2 acre for sale across the river in Charlestown..

Yep, North East is a great little town, discovered it last year when purchasing a new boat. Herb's is the place to stop for fishermen. Weather permitting, I get down there most every week during the season.

Who has the best Blue Claws in town, went to the tap room in Ches. City the other day and disappointed. We usually go to a local crabhouse but they don't start them till 5:30. I like to have them in the afternoon.

North East is a great little town (especially during the spring of the year;)). I keep my boat down there in March/April, so to me NE, MD = Stripers (well Rockfish...). Herb's is a top notch bait and tackle shop with great owners (and friends). Cant beat the food and drinks at the Nauti-Goose and Woody's. You also need to try the new Pickled Herring Pub on Main St.

Try the North East Grocer for great sandwiches (on the same side of the road and walkable to Herb's.
The best breakfast is at the Paradise Grill just south of town.
The best launch ramp is at Anchor Marine. Why drive the 8 miles south to the park when you can launch right in town...behind the Nauti-Goose Restaurant.
Besides, there are rumors that there are bluefish in the Elk River this week :D

Yes I plan to fish it. Haven't been spending any time fishing within the tournament boundaries though. Not real optimistic. Looking forward to the party portion of the day.

I've been going to Elk Neck ramp for a couple of years in Sept. and Oct to Crab. I've read several posts on Blue Crab.org about a place called Triton. Seems to me alot of crabs are caught around there. Where is this spot or does anyone know a short run from the ramp ( I have a 14 ft w/ 15 hp) and when I'm loaded up it moves at a glacial speed. I have 24 traps and 1200 ft of snood to run. Any suggestions?

It's up the Elk River north of the canal entrance on the left:

First of all, thanks for all the compliments for Herb's.
The Elk River is loaded with crabs. Mike caught 1 1/2 bushels on Friday in about 4 hours, using 30 traps. Anywhere from Turkey Point up the Elk is good in about 8 - 12 feet of water.
