Do they let you fish off the pier or is NAT EARL just sponsoring the tournament. They usually chase you away from it. Any contact info?

As far as fishing by the pier dont try it . The fine is about 500$ The navy patrols it with armed commando type gear. The channels are practicly unfished becouse you can not get with in 800 yds. Every one who fishes the area knows this. The pier is very big train tracks and all to load the ships that carry the ammo, shells , bombs etc. that is why it is so protected.

Stay outside the white cans. Do not cut the cornners! They will come. There usually is a patrol boat with a blue light flashing. As you aproach the area watch them point their boat in your direction getting ready to pursue. Scary at times.

I think someone missed something on the post. Yeah they patrol the area with vigor. And prosecute violaters assuming they don't sink them.
The point of the post was that there's supposed to be a special tourney on the pier itself. That's what the website I posted was about. Now if that was something bogus, let us know. I was under the impression it was a valid chance to legally be out there fishing.

http://www.tacklethepier.com/about.html This link gives most of the info. This is a walk on the Navy Pier fishing tournament. I think it is blocked off up by the ships should any be at the docks.

* No alcoholic beverages allowed on NWS Pier

* Smoking allowed in designated areas ONLY!

As for fishing by boat, no way! Protected by armed navy craft and they are not friendly. You can't fish inside the bouys, $500.00 fine.
