The Hi-Mar club conducts one of the premier striped bass tournaments in North Jersey. This year's fall 40 hour event will run from 8 P.M. on Friday (10/24/08) to Noon on Sunday (10/26/08) at Bahrs Landing Restaurant (http://www.bahrs.com/), 2 Bay Avenue Highlands/Sandy Hook, New Jersey, 732-872-1245.
One of the goals of the Hi-Mar striped bass tournament is to raise funds so that the club can help various local charities. For instance, Hi-Mar supports the Monmouth/Ocean County Big Brother - Big Sister Organization (http://www.bbbsmonmouth.org/) by providing a mid-summer fluke trip for local youngsters aboard local charter boats. The club has also adopted Camp Happiness (http://www.njbca.org/) in Leonardo, which is a home for blind men. The club members provide a personal touch for these organizations by routinely dropping off fresh fish for the residents of the home.
