Gr8ful Fish

Fished with Hammer4Reel, and my buddy, Al, aboard my "Bertha" on Thursday.
Started with some birdplay in between the channels that yielded a few schoolie bass for Hammer and Al on jigs. I managed to drop the couple of bass I hooked. On a few occasions, the bass were lazily rolling around on the surface feeding on tiny baits. The tiny baitfish made the bass finicky and difficult to entice into striking our larger jigs. A few blues were also mixed in with the bass as evidenced by a couple of clipped lures.
Gave up on the bass when some guys started trolling through and running into the middle of the school of fish rather than working the edges. After heading down the beach to the Highlands Bridge, we tried another area of birds that were wroking over rainfish down the beach. Despite the dense flocks of birds, we were unable to find anything with our jigs.
Ran out to the reef where we proceeded to drown a half bushel of clams and a 1/4 bushel of greenies. The fish were chewing like crazy; it was drop-n-reel thorughout the bulk of the afternoon. We must have released at least 60 short tog along with a dozen or so keeper-sized ones. We also tossed back a ahandful of short sea bass and short porgies, but most of the day was spent wrestling with tog and porgies
Hammer and I put on a togging clinic for Al when we started, but by the end of the trip, Al was swingin' em pretty good as well.
Ended the day with 33 keeper porgies, 2 keeper sea bass, and 3 tog up to Al's 4.5-pounder in the box.
On our way back to the barn there were huge schools of rainfish along the beach spaced out from the reef to the hook. There were so many of the tiny baits packed so tightly together that they looked like huge bunker pods from a distance.
Once again, it was another awesome day of great fishing and good times!
Hammer has the only photos as I left my digi at home.
