Hey guys!
Aboard for a 4 hour trip today were Joe, Joe, and Paul!
Our plan was to give it a shot for stripers, and if it didn't work out, go to the next best option for action - bluefish.
Cleared the inlet at the crack o' dawn, and made a right and steamed down the beach. Hooked up a few live baits and went to work...first pass, got back two baits customized by the bluefish and highway robbery on number three. Pass #2 - same result! Decided to switch to jigs and see if we could catch the culprits. Immediately, we had bluefish on the deck. We made a move and found an enormous group of birds working, and continued to jig the bluefish. Towards the end of the up tide, we tried one more spot down the rips which can be an early season producer. Put the baits in the water and, you guessed it, they went to kiddy scissor class with the blues! So, back to jigs and had a blast on the light rods catching blues! Although we didn't get our first official bass of the fall, we did catch 40 bluefish, and the guys kept 30 to take home. Water temps were in the upper 60's, and the water wasn't too dirty. Tons of bait around - bay anchovies, butterfish, peanut bunker - things are looking up for some great bassing! My gut tells me that after this Northerly blow with some colder temps this weekend, we should see the first few fish of the season from the areas we fish next week!
Can't wait! :thumbsup::fighting:
