i was taught and posted in db forum that a resident striper will be darker than a migratory striper such as in the deleware bay . i was told i was wrong. any others have an answer. my teacher who is a barner stills claims we are right:)
that's the way I've always understood it.

The fish I catch in the fall that I think are migratory are always a sharper colored silver.

How about a non-resident or backwater or deep water bass spends a few days in clean shallow sandy bottom water would it start to mimic its' surroundings and start to lighten up after several days?

I'm no Marine Biologist, but I always thought it was the darker the belly or the more stained the belly is, the more likely the fish is a resident bass. It makes sense this way.
NJ makes all carbon based life change colors.:D

I heard it both ways.
Personally I think it's complete BS

I have also found that migratory fish are "cleaner". Although they have sea lice, the don't have the red blotches and other blemishes that resident fish seem to have.
I have also seen this in warm water vs cold water fish - warm water fish have more blemishes.
