THE DREAM......
Went on Sea Star (CM) on 10/31 - fished 3 mi. off/out from Hereford Inlet.
Saw Gannets diving and followed. No hits-then-in the distance saw whale spouting at least 50 ft in the air. Chase is on..20 minutes later - stop way short of whale - Hundreds of gannets diving into mixed school of stripers and blues swirling all around boat --fish on!! lost 6 rigs to the blues- (I landed 2 -14 and 15 lbs ) AND 4 stripes 28.25" , 33" , 38" and 32" - 2 on bucktails with short wire leader and 2 on live eel.As we were all catching (21 people on board) The whale comes up to surface about 40 yards off the bow -- circling, corraling the stripes and blues -- what an eating machine -What a sight and what a striper trip dream come true! 2 people only managed some blues-so they got 2 stripes from other people - boat limited out !! Blues,Stripes,Gannets and a Whale - what a day!
THE NIGHTMARE......
Went back out on the Sea Star 11/3 - 32 on board --- NOT ONE fish caught by anyone ! Pool money went to the mate.:confused::thumbsdown::huh:

I guess the whale ate all the fish! I was out in that exact area on sat 11/1. Bunker all around, gannets diving down, caught nothing but sharks and ling. That must have been some sight though, seeing that whale with all those people on the boat and everything!

The whale ate real good and we all caught real good too ! Amazing to actually watch this creature feeding on the surface - snapping its huge jaws as it is 'body-surfing' right through the stripers and blues on top!
Wish I had a video camera(let alone a camera period-no pics:() - THIS would have definitely made it on a fishing show!
I sukkh on getting my bearings on the ocean -but we might have - just maybe or maybe not 'drifted' a tee weeny bit past some invisible line that we are not to cross. I wasn't driving and i didnt see no stinking line. We were the only boat in on the action.
On the nightmare trip on 11/3 we went to another part of the ocean- saw some kind of lighthouse on a beach - Bunker all around and gannets sporadicaly diving - not even 1 fish came aboard - just a couple horny dogs.:mad::confused:

That's one of the best CM party boat reports I've heard in a long time. Always enjoyed the Sea Star, is Capt. Bob still running it?
