Was running in from the delaware bay monday afternoon when my buddy seen something floating, he said it looked like a whole fish, so i turned around and pulled up next to it, it was a striper and a nice one 34inchs....The fish had no signs of death no hook marks in the mouth no nothing ....The eyes werent glazed over and the color of the fish wasnt faded....He was only about an hour old. So i took him home and filletd it to see if it was gut hooked, well the fish had a whole bunker head in its stomach and a crab no hook...Weird...So i didnt want to take any chances and eat the fish because i dont know how it died so i through it back into the bay.... What a shame....nice fish like that....

My guess is someone got their limit, then got a bigger fish and threw over the smaller one. What a shame.

Maybe something we couldn't see? My guess is like Mikes, someone probably threw him back but you never know.

Was it alive when you picked it up?

No the fish was dead as a door knob....What mike said does make sense though....if people catch there limit than land one that is larger and want to keep it they should just bring the fish home anyway....dont just toss it over....

I've seen boats do that with both stripers and with blue fin tuna because of the slot limits.

Nah keep fishing...just bring a camera, snap a pic and release...Total shame that people do this..no respect for the resource..

What ever happened to 'sport fishing?' If you have a limit in the box and catch a bigger fish...snap a pic and let it go. Have respect for this wonderful resource that we are blessed to have! We try to catch all the fish we can, and let go a lot of 'bigger fish' after our limit has hit the ice. The sport is in the catching.

hell, gimme that 34 all day long, take that over a bigger fish anyday. I will snap pics of the bigguns, maybe take one home, MAYBE and keep the 28-36's for veal. anything bigger than 36"'s and you might as well give me bluefish(as some of you all know I love bluefish), but the large stripers taste like blues to me, so I will take the blues over the stripers:eek::nuts:
