Had a small three man charter lastnight and the forcast called for some wind and rain but these were some hearty folks who didnt care about the weather. On top of that it didnt even matter cause the boat protected us from the elements. It nice to have a nice warm cabin and salon to go into. anyway back to the fishing.
The fishing was good tonight but not like it has been with bites almost every 5-10 miutes. Tonight they came every 20 minutes or so. I set up in a little different spot then normal because I got reports of a dog fish invasion. The fish that we caught didnt have much sea lice on them so they have been in the bay now for some time so I think that body of fish moved north up the bay a bit and a new body should be moving in shortly after the blow. The fish we caught tonight were all nice fish ranging from 20 lbs to a whopping 47 lbs...nice fish Bill!! We had a 40 and 30 somthing lbs fish as well. It was good fishing in the dark and rain and to me thats Striper fishing!!
till next time,
Captain Kobey

Cap kobie thanks for a night not to be forgotten.
This was the trip us guys wait all year for.
Seeing guys slightly disapointed with a fish less than 20lbs it was great.
I don't think anyone would believe it if we did'nt have pictures.
But I'm still wondering if bill had one more chance if he would have gotten the
50ty lb fish on the holloween rod deadly combo.
Kobie is the man.
We're back out on the 12 nov trip. to get some more cookie cutters 40 '' bass.

Although I have been fishing for years I am by no means an expert and this was my first time chunkin. I highly recommend Capn Koby and won't hesitate to go out with him again when circumstances allow me to.
Koby took the time to explain in detail everything he was doing and why and it really made the difference in having us ready when the fish hit!!
Thanx

Capt Kobey, thanks for the great trip.
Lou and Bill, it was a pleasure fishing with you.
I have followed Capt Kobey's reports and knew he was on the fish,
large numbers, and big fish from reading the reports and seeing the
pictures.
We scheduled to leave at 3, got to the boat and was greatly impressed.
Tons of room, comfortable cabin, big quiet boat, easily protected from
the wind which was suppose to blow to 20, would not even realize it
when fishing, boat was just great.
What I have found is that what defines a good captain is someone who
knows the area well and also has a network. Captain Kobey has both.
Before we had arrived, he had reports from many different sources
where the bite was happening. When we were out, he was getting calls
and calling other captains regarding the bite. We were given the choice
of catching alot of fish in the smaller 20 lb range or catching fewer,
but much bigger fish.
The other important aspect I have found which identifies a good captain is the knowledge of the best bait and presentation. I was extremely impressed with Capt Kobey techniques. I could tell Capt Kobey spent extra money to make sure we had the best baits possible to catch big bass.
The first bass came within 5 minutes of dropping the line in the water when the reel started screaming. Some of the bites were with the fish running hard, others were soft taps. Captain Kobey helped set the hooks
in the beginnig until he got the hang of the timing and technique. It was
great to be able to learn and improve.
The 40 bler took of screaming, thought the reel was going to catch
on fire, went about 200 yards before Bill got him turned.
Lou is right in that after we caught the 47 lber, 20 lbers looked small.
You get spoiled quick.
Unbelieveable night, at the end we were all exhausted, but we were
trying to see if Captain Kobey would do another open boat night
trip next week. I did not get home until 4:30 AM, had to skip
work Wens, but it was well worth it.
